Miles M.11 Whitney Straight

Miles M.11 Whitney Straight was a two-seater single-engine monoplane, designed for club and private flying, for greater comfort, had seats located next to each other in the & amp; nbsp; covered cabin. It was formed in & amp; nbsp; in 1936 in collaboration with the Miles brothers and American Whitney Straight, a later RAF pilot and BOAC director. The first prototype took off on March 14, 1936 in Woodley, by 1938 49 machines were built (and one a year later). The basic version was marked M.11A, had a de Havilland Gipsy Major I engine with an output of 97 kW s from the prototype differed slightly modified chassis and the front of the cabin pressed from one piece. The third built machine was marked M.11B and was designed to test the new 101kW engine Amherst Villiers Maya I. This version was 16 km/h faster, but already in early 1938 the machine received a standard engine. Gipsy Major A prototype with a 108 kW de Havilland Gypsy Major II engine, the M.11C, was also built, but was destroyed in an accident.
At the beginning of the war, 23 of these machines came into service in the & amp; nbsp; RAF, of which one was sent to India and one to Egypt. They were used as fasteners. Another M.11A was in FAA service between 1940 and 1943, and three machines were used by the RNZAF.
