dělo s klínovým závěrem

Diskuse

At the chateau in Dětenice, I discovered about 3 cannons with a wedge breech (various calibers from 5 to 10 cm) in the exhibition. Somehow I miss their historical and combat classification. The cannons have a smooth barrel and we did not find legible signings on them. At the same time, the CaK army still in 1866 had cannons with a grooved barrel but forearm, and already 10 years later krupp made steel cannons with a grooved barrel and a much better block cross closure.

I would like to know something more about the period when these cannons were created, whether it is a conversion and who had them in service.

I apologize for the quality of the photo from the phone.

The cannons at the chateau in Dětenice do not have a wedge breech, they are in fact cannons with an exchangeable chamber. Specifically, these cannons came to the castle, with the castle belonging to the Johanites, and the cannons are said to be part of those used in the Mediterranean against the Turks. In reality, these are several bronze cannons, which have the rear part of the barrel (chamber) removable, and this allows it to be charged outside the cannon and then inserted into the end of the barrel, sealing and firing. If there were more chambers, it was possible to increase the rate of fire for some time. However, it had many disadvantages, the main thing was to seal the chamber (basically just attaching and wedging its back) The increase was only for a few shots, then the barrel had to be cleaned (as with normal guns), cannons were of course more expensive due to higher technological complexity , there were problems with the centering of the chamber relative to the barrel and many others. Therefore, even though their principle is very old, these cannons have never spread.
At the time of my visit, it was not allowed to take pictures with a flash (again, we had a private explanation Smile) and therefore the photos I attach are quite lousy, but you can see a chamber with a handle inserted behind the barrel, which is missing in Hunter's first photo.
