In 1934, has expanded the range of u.s. aircraft carriers the USS Ranger and two other USS Yorktown and USS Enterprise, should be completed in the nearest time. The navy therefore announced a competition on the aircraft for their arming. On contract to the on-board dive bomber bid three dvouplošné types, the Curtiss XSBC-2, the Great Lakes XB2G-1, Grumman XSBF-1. XB2G-1 was in its essence a modified BG-1 with bachratějším the fuselage, in which was placed the bomb bay and retractable landing gear.
