Light Tank Mk I
A4E2, A4E3, A4E4, A4E5

History of origin
These tanks were accepted into service shortly after the completion of the tank A4E1 as his direct successors. All of them practically became prototype constructions, on which the effects of individual improvements and structural units were examined before their introduction into series production.
The combat area of the crew, driver and commander/shooter, was on the left side of the vehicle and the engine on the right. Larger tower than at A4E1 was in the back left of the battle area and contained a water-cooled Vickers machine gun caliber .303 British (7.7 mm)

Prior to its adoption and production, it was known as the Light Tank Mark VIII or A4Ex. In 1930, a well-thought-out design received a small number of manufactured units under the designation Light Tank Mark I. This tank was honored to be the first officially accepted light tank of the British Army. As part of further development, its designers performed several basic tests of armament and shock absorbers. After all, all four vehicles were intensively used for experiments until they were scrapped and scrapped in 1933. (I do not assume that anyone would deal with another possible use at that time)
The thickness of the armor ranged between 14 and 4 mm of rolled armor plate mounted on iron angles. So far, the driver's limited space has been extended by an armored cover. In my opinion, but its dimensions and location greatly limited the possibility of firing a machine gun in the front hemisphere.
The usual camouflage scheme was the application of green on all surfaces, the military mark was made of black sheet metal (in the photo it looks the same color as the rest of the tank) with the model number drawn in white, on the left white letters (in the photo on the right). The AA tank was camouflaged in 1930 with irregular color spots (so far I have not seen a photo or a description of the colors used).

Characteristics and construction
All vehicles were powered by a six-cylinder Meadows 6EPT petrol engine with an output of 60 HP at 3000 RPM, in the fuselage to the right of the battle area. The transmission of power to the front gears was provided by a two-speed transmission with a two-speed auxiliary transmission, including reverse gear. Ventilation was at the end of the fuselage and was covered by armored grilles, there was also a tank for 27 gallons of gasoline.
All four wheels had a diameter of 508 mm and a thickness of 63.5 mm.
A4E4 Horstman type suspension of a simple coil spring supplemented by a frictional shock absorber on the front and rear travel pairs of wheels.
A4E5 further modified A4E4, but underwent such significant modifications in the shock absorbers of the chassis arms that there was no need for a kinetic shock absorber. all work on these prototypes was completed in 1933.

Armament
A4E2 - in the open turret from the Crossley Armored Car are located two anti-aircraft machine guns Vickers caliber 12.7 mm (probably a conversion in 1930), supplied with four ammunition belts (?).
All three other tanks were equipped with a water-cooled machine gun Vickers caliber .303 British (7.7 mm) for each machine gun was loaded 4,000 rounds

Combat Service
These tanks served primarily as development and experimental models

Further development of type
A4E2 - MWEE 189/T491/ML8784
A4E3 - MWEE 189a/T492/ML8785
A4E4 - MWEE 189b/T493/ML8786
A4E5 - MWEE 189c/T494/ML8787

Development then continued with versions of the tank Light Tank Mk IA.
