Panzertriebwagen (PzTrWg)

Panzertriebwagen (PzTrWg) - motor armoured wagon.

At the beginning of World War II, the Wehrmacht introduced a new type of armoured train into service, the Panzertriebwagen, abbreviated PzTrWg. It was basically an armoured diesel locomotive, equipped at the beginning and end with an armoured turret with artillery armament. The new type of armored car possessed not only greater firepower, but also greater operational capabilities. Its ďgreater advantage was the ability to operate independently even on lines that did not allow the movement of standard armored trains by their design (due to weight, etc.).

Gradually the following motor armoured cars were built:

Panzertriebwagen Nr 15 (PzTrWg 15)
Panzertriebwagen 16 (PzTrWg 16)
