Jozef Tido Gašpar

J. T. Gašpar was born into the family of an economic administrator. After completing his primary education (burgher school) he continued his studies at the commercial academy in Martin. However, he did not complete his studies. In 1911 he worked as a sailor in the Adriatic Sea. After the establishment of Czechoslovakia (1918) he worked as a clerk. He held the position of county secretary and later worked as a secretary in the ministry with full powers for the administration of Slovakia. During the formation of the Slovak state, he worked as an official of the Slovak Autonomous Government and from 1939 as head of the Press Department of the Prime Minister's Office.

From 1940 to 1941 he served as a diplomat of the Slovak Republic in Switzerland. In 1941 he was promoted to the post of Head of the Propaganda Office. He held this post until 1945. As a journalist, he was an active contributor to newspapers such as Slovák, Gardista, Slovenské pohľady, Nový svět, Ľudový chýrnik, Slovenský hlas and Elán. J.T. Gašpar established himself as one of the leading ideologues who justified the alliance with the German Empire and ideologically opposed the Slovak National Uprising.

In 1945 he was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment by the national court. Thanks to an amnesty in 1958, he was released from prison. After his release from prison, he lived out his life in Nové Zámky.

As a writer, he went by the pseudonym Tido J. Gašpar or Peter Štrbský.
