15.05.1969 Just before the final equipment of the submarine USS Guitarro, the vessel moored at the pier sank to more than 10.5 meters (35 feet). There was no fissile material on board at the time of the accident. The report of the commission of inquiry (namely part of the US Congress House Armed Services Subcommittee) accused the shipyard workers of criminal negligence MINS, Vallejo, CA , who worked on the submarine. Two civilian workers pumped water into the bow and stern sections of the submarine. Neither knew what the other was doing. The sinking of the SSN-665 cost approximately $ 35 million and significantly delayed the vessel's entry into service
17.05.1984 A fire broke out on board during a naval exercise. After opening the hatch, the patrolling sailor discovered that the source of heat, steam and, subsequently, the flames came from the batteries. The submarine headed for the port and the crew got the fire under control, although it still burned after arriving at the port. The official statement was that the fire had occurred in the battery section due to a failure of one of the cells
DD.07.1986 SSN-665 USS Guitarro suffered minor damage during the voyage. The US Navy said there were no serious security issues or equipment loss
29.05.1992 deleted from US Navy ship list
18.10.1994 The scrapping of the submarine USS Guitarro was completed as part of a nuclear vessel recycling program
