Military Counterintelligence - VKR



Military counterintelligence was an integral part of the security apparatus in Czechoslovakia between 1945 and 1990. It was first under the Ministry of Defence (or the main staff of the army), then under the Ministry of National Security, and finally for a long time under the Ministry of the Interior.


Chronological overview of the units carrying out military counterintelligence activities in the period under review:


1945-1946 - Main Administration of Defence Intelligence
1946-1950 - 5th Department of the Main Staff
1950-1951 - Main Information Administration
1951-1952 - MNB Military Intelligence Headquarters
1952-1953 - Main Administration of Military Counterintelligence of the MNB
1953-1964 - VI. administration of the Ministry of Interior
1964-1966 - Main Administration of Military Counterintelligence of the Ministry of Interior (III. Administration of the Ministry of Interior)
1966-1969 - Administration of Military Counterintelligence of the Main Administration of State Security (III. administration of HS StB)
1969-1970 - Main Administration of Military Counterintelligence of the Federal Intelligence Services Administration
1971-1979 - Main Administration of Military Counterintelligence of the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs
1979-1990 - Main Administration of Military Counterintelligence of the SNB




The Military Counterintelligence was abolished by order of the Minister of the Interior dated 31 May 1990, which became effective on 1 June 1990.
