The Boeing Model 69 was based on a series of fighters FB / PW-9, specifically from the last of the prototypes for the army, XP-8, and navy FB-6. As with the XP-8 was part of the breaking of the wires of the skeleton of the hull replaced by pipes, and in front of bogie beams were olejopneumatické shock absorbers. The skeleton of the fuselage was the same as in the previous FB of welded pipes, the hull, however, was somewhat more rounded. As well as the FB-6 then used a radial engine R-1340 Wasp. The prototype took off 3. November 1926 and received the designation of the XF2B-1. The installation of the engine was essentially the same as for FB-6, the new machine but got a great spinner. The following year it was after the completion of the tests, ordered 32 serial machines, the first of them were the navy passed at the end of January 1928. Serial machines were somewhat heavier than the prototype, yet they were about 6 km/h faster, and that through it, that should blunter bow without the propeller cone (indeed, in the austrian Albatross it was like). In addition, should the serial of the machine the rudder with the corner balancing, as FB-5. Thirty-two of the machines were divided between the fighter squadron VF-1B and bomber squadron VB-2B. Like most other american types F2B-1 did not participate in any fighting, they have won a good reputation as an acrobatic machine after it is used the first aerobatic team of the american maritime air force, the Three Sea Hawks, who managed to take off, maneuver and turn the land with the end of wings of the united 15 meters of rope. In addition to these machines acquired a Boeing permission for the construction of two essentially identical Model 69-B for export. Machine with design number 1034 was sold to Japan, where he was tested by the naval air force, the second machine should be brought in Brazil, but was destroyed in the storm.
