Event:
31.10.1973 ordered to build the vessel
03.10.1986 the Soviet Navy (VMF) officially filed a complaint against the commanding officer of the submarine USS Augusta, frigate Captain James von Suskil. The reason was an alleged collision with a Soviet K-219 ballistic missile submarine (class Project 667AU Nalim (NATO code: Yankee-I)), which sank a few days later
31.10 October 1986 during a routine training patrol in the Atlantic, the submarine USS Augusta was damaged by an underwater collision. No crew members were injured and the vessel returned to its home port for repairs, which by the end of the year had reached $2.7 million. It is unclear if the submarine struck the ocean floor or if it collided with an underwater object. Aside from hitting the whale, there has been speculation that the collision was again with a Soviet submarine, this time believed to be a K-279 (class Project 667B Murena (NATO code: Delta-I)). In any case, the incident did not threaten the submarine itself, and there was no risk of sinking or a nuclear reactor accident
07.02.2008 SSN-710 vessel USS Augusta officially transferred to reserve at Naval Submarine Base New London, Groton, CT
April 15, 2008 transition to submarine decommissioning begins
