HMS Queen Elizabeth

The battleship was built at Portsmouth dockyard and launched on October 16th, 1913.

She took part in the Dardanelles Campaign during 1st World War. Between February 25th, 1915 and May 14th, 1915 she bombarded the forts in the straits in support of the Gallipoli landings. In February 1917 she became the flagship of the Home Fleet.

She underwent two major refits between the wars.

At the outbreak of the 2nd World War she was undergoing repairs at Portsmouth . As she was in danger from enemy bombers, she was towed to Rosyth. She re-entered service in May 1941 and was assigned to the Mediterranean Fleet. Along with her sister ship HMS Valiant (02), she suffered damage as a result of an attack by Italian frogmen. Due to the severe damage she was repaired in Norfolk from September 1942 to June 1st, 1943. She was then assigned to the Eastern Fleet and participated in carrier operations against targets in Indonesia. She was returned to the UK in July 1945.

She was scrapped at Clyde and Troon on July 7th, 1948.
