He was born 18.12.1919 in Nispitz, Czechoslovakia, the son of a farmer. He worked as a groom when he was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1938 and underwent training as an anti-tank gunner. He served in the ranks of Inf.Rgt. 19 in the 7. Infantry Division in Poland, Belgium, France and Russia (Minsk, Smolensk, Moscow). 1943 already as a holder of the Bronze Pin for close combat, as well as with the badge for infantry assault at the rank of Unteroffizier, he was the commander of a self-propelled gun in the assembly of the 14th Anti-Tank Company. 1943 he proved himself in anti-tank battles at Spass Demenska, Orla, Gomel. 1944 on the bridgehead at the Narva River. Here, during the breakthrough of a Soviet tank company, he got into heavy fighting in a swampy landscape. After several successful hits, his own gun was hit, although the crew was weakened by one killed and three wounded continued to fight until the charging mechanism jammed. While the wounded attempted to repair themselves, Sergeant Kral held off the attacking Soviet supporting infantry with machine gun fire. Kral suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh, and it was only after an hour of fighting that reinforcements arrived to close the breach. Kral was awarded the Knight's Cross on 15 May 1944. He survived the war, then worked as a miner, became a father of four sons and died on 9.9.1983 in Hamm, Westphalia.
