M-100

- licensed engine Hispano-Suiza 12YBbrs

Although it is undeniable that Soviet engine designers made considerable progress from the establishment of the first workers' state until the early 1930s, a powerful and mature domestic engine was not available in the USSR in 1930-31. And just such engines were needed for the development of aviation as salt. The domestic M-34 engine was too heavy, and therefore the state leadership had no choice but to purchase foreign, albeit capitalist, licenses to manufacture promising engines. Perspectives meant the possibility of further increasing their performance.

The selection of suitable types took place in France and the USA. A selection committee headed by VJKlim's ( & # 1042;. & # 1071;. & # 1050; & # 1083; & # 1080; & # 1084; & # 1086; & # 1074;), who was a versatile specialist in the theory and design of aircraft engines. CIAM Chief ( & # 1062; & # 1048; & # 1040; & # 1052;) IIPoberezhsky ( & # 1048;. & # 1048;. & # 1055; & # 1086; & # 1077; & # 1088; & # 1077; & # 1078; & # 1089; & # 1082; & # 1080; & # 1080;[/i ]) and a well - known designer of ADŠvecov aircraft engines.

One of the engines selected by the commissions and which was subsequently manufactured under license under the agreements in the USSR was a twelve-cylinder piston engine Hispano-Suiza 12Ybrs with V-cylinders, whose takeoff power was 641 kW (860 hp) at a weight of only 470 kg. In Soviet Russia, the engine was designated M-100. Its further elaboration was entrusted to VJKlimov, who was also appointed chief designer of plant No. 26 in Rybinsk ( & # 1056; & # 1099; & # 1073; & # 1080; & # 1085; & # 1089 ; & # 1082;), which was purposefully upgraded with new machinery. Serial production of the M-100 engine began in 1935, and two years later, in 1937, its modernized version of the M-100A was put into series production.

The M-100A engine powered the bomber SB-2 (ANT-40) as well as many other serial and test types - Staľ-7 ( & # 1057; & # 1090; & # 1072; & # 1083; & # 1100; -7), Staľ-11 ( & # 1057; & # 1090; & # 1072; & # 1083; & # 1100; - 11), VIT ( & # 1042; & # 1048; & # 1058;) and others.
