PG - MBK-161

МБК-161
The MBK-161 naval armoured boats form another group using turrets from T-34 tanks. The first unit (BK-501) was established in Leningrad on 16.10.1942, and was accepted into the VMF on 10.10.1943. Despite the shortcomings of the design, commented by the Navy, the low speed, small angle of the guns and the absence of fire control devices needed for indirect fire, it demonstrated high durability and the possibility of crew protection.
The shipyards produced 20 jdenotes, the last (BK-520) was launched on 30.06.1944. 15 later boats had improved armour. All survivors were removed from VMF status by order on 28.11.1957.
This type was first designated "Sea Armored Boat" MBK (Morskoy Bronze Kater) later "Small Gunboat" MKL (Malaya Kanonerskaya Lodka) and later again MBK. Thus, we may encounter a double designation due to the multiple renaming of the type.
