The Sopwith Snipe was designed at the Sopwith Aviation Company factory by its chief designer Herbert Smith in 1917. Smith's aim was to build a fighter that would surpass the most successful British fighter to that time in agility and performance Sopwith Camel. He therefore took the original Camel as the basis for his redesign of the front fuselage, in which he lowered the hump covering the pair of Vickers machine guns and moved the pilot's position upwards to achieve a better view from the cockpit. A new Bentley B.R.2 rotary engine was fitted in the nose with more power (although, as with the Camel, both engines were in the lower power category). The wing was given a new profile and an additional pair of struts, giving the Snipe greater structural strength and safety in dive flight than the Camel. The tail section of the aircraft underwent only minor modifications with the aim of achieving greater safety during take-off and landing when the Camel's small size of the vertical tail area hardly compensated for the rotational force of the engine, which deflected the aircraft from straight flight and caused great difficulties especially for less experienced pilots. The armament of the aircraft remained the same as that of the Camel, i.e. two synchronised Vickers 0.303 calibre machine guns and bowden-operated four underwing and underwing slings for 25 kg bombs.
The first flight of the Sopwith Snipe prototype took place in June 1918 and serial production began the same month, resulting in 1,567 Sopwith Snipe aircraft by 1919. The first Sopwith Snipe fighters reached the front with 43 Squadron RAF in July 1918 and subsequently began to rapidly replace the Sopwith Camel. In combat conditions, the new aircraft proved to have a number of advantages over the original Camels, and the Snipe proved to outperform even the modern German Fokker D.VII fighters, which were inflicting heavy losses on the Camels and outperforming them technically. By the end of the war, Snipe pilots had probably gained 250-300 (no exact figure exists, these are estimated limits based on available literature) victories over German aircraft.
After the end of the war, Sopwith Snipe aircraft found their way beyond the UK's own forces to foreign air forces, and specifically to Russia, where they fought on both sides in the Civil War (they were used there primarily by British pilots on the White Guard side and by Red Army pilots, who captured a few damaged aircraft and used them after repair). The Australian and Canadian air forces brought their Snipes directly from the front, where their own pilots fought on them. After the war, brand new machines were delivered by the Sopwith Aviation Company to replace the battle-damaged Snipes.
On October 27, 1918, Canadian William Barker fought a formation of 15-20 German Fokker D.VIIs over the front (he was attacked after having shot down a German two-seater earlier), three of which he shot down (witnesses estimate that he fought as many as 60 German planes at once). He himself was wounded by two shots in the left thigh and forearm. He was subsequently awarded the Victoria Cross, Britain's highest decoration, for his battle. His aircraft was flown to Canada after the war and is still part of the collection of the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa.

Sopwith 7F.1 Snipe Mk.I - Sopwith 7F.1 Snipe, sériové číslo E8102, 201. peruť RAF, říjen 1918, pilot W. G. Barker.

Sopwith 7F.1 Snipe Mk.I - Sopwith 7F.1 Snipe Nelly, sériové číslo E6351, září 1920, Alexandrovsk (dnes Záporoží), 1. stíhací letecký oddíl, pilot G. S. Sapožnikov. Letoun původně patřil 1. slovansko-britské peruti, avšak za dosud nevyjasněných okolností jej ukořistili bolševici. Letoun létal v původní britské kamufláži (spodní plochy lakované plátno, horní a boční khaki PC 10, kryty přídě Battleship Grey).

Opravím to tedy v souladu s tvým životopisem.
