Bojová skupina SS Wallenstein [1945-1945]

SS Combat Group Wallenstein / SS-Kampfgruppe Wallenstein
Kampfverband Wallenstein / Kampfgruppe Wallenstein / 44. SS-Panzergrenadier-Division Wallenstein

The SS-Kampfverband Wallenstein, sometimes referred to as Kampfgruppe Wallenstein or 44. SS-Panzer-grenadier Division Wallenstein under construction. It was the collective designation for the SS units that advanced against the Prague Uprising from the south from the SS-Truppenübungsplatz Beneschau training ground in the Neveklov region from 5 May 1945. The advance from the south was led by two battle groups:

"West" from Hradištka via Zbraslav to Smichov (SS-Kampfgruppe Moldauthal, also known in the literature as SS-Kampfgruppe Klein or SS-Kampfgruppe Emil or SS-Kampfgruppe Hradischko), commanded by SS-Standartenführer Emil Klein, commander of SS-Pionier-Schule 4 Hradischko.

"Eastern" against Krč and Pankrác (SS-Kampfgruppe Jörchel or SS-Kampfgruppe Barbara), commanded by SS-Standartenführer Wolfgang Jörchel, commander of SS-Junkerschule Prag.

The aforementioned groups were to be joined by units of the broken 2nd SS Panzer Division Das Reich retreating along the Pilsen road and wagoned to the station in Hořovice. However, they were attacked by the Vlasov and withdrew west towards the Americans. Three battalions of the Hlinka Guard are also documented in the Wallenstein volume, but it is not clear whether they were deployed in combat (Slowakei Grenadier Regiment Nr. 1 "Hlinka Garde", commanded by SS-Obersturmbannführer Walter Demes). SS-Kampfverband Wallenstein fought in Prague's Smichov until 9 May 1945. Subsequently, he was taken by French intelligence from the 5th American Infantry Division (5th Infantry Division) via Řevnice to the demarcation line in the Čimelice area. Some of the units managed to cross into American captivity, some did not, and it is very likely that they took part in the battles at Milín and Březnice on 11 and 12 May 1945.

Generalfeldmarschall Ferdinand Schörner allocated a force for the attack on Prague that far exceeded anything deployed against other European insurgencies. Typically, he used almost exclusively Waffen-SS troops. From the south, it was the SS-Kampfverband Wallenstein from the Benesov-Neveklov training area with a considerable number of tanks and artillery. From the area of Český Brod, the remnants of the I. Flak Korps General der Flakartillerie Richard Reimann (the so-called Kampfgruppe Reimann) were to take part in the attack. From the SS-Truppenübungsplatz Milowitz, the Panzer-Jäger Schule Milowitz (Kampfgruppe Milowitz) was to set off. In addition to these main forces, a number of smaller motorized, mostly tank and artillery units from central and eastern Bohemia were deployed to Prague.

All troops were to concentrate on the outskirts of Prague by the morning of 6 May 1945 and at dawn launch a concentrated attack from several directions, supported by air support and friendly attacks by German forces in Prague.

SS Kampfgruppe Wallenstein advanced from the south in two streams along both banks of the Vltava. The units on the right bank were commanded by SS-Standartenführer Wolfgang Jörchel, and on the left by SS-Standartenführer von Klein. Only the Aufklärung Abteilung "Wallenstein" reached the outskirts of Prague, which had already penetrated along the national road from Benesov on Saturday evening, before the roadblocks were erected. Troops of one regiment on the right bank of the Vltava reached the Prague suburbs only on Sunday evening and did not intervene in the battle. Some of the tanks were transported from Benešov to Prague by rail. The insurgents prevented their transport by destroying the Čerčany area and the tanks were stranded on the line.

Diskuse

In the mines from the Gruppe.Drei, I would only advice to supplement the commander of Feldersatz-Regiment "Schwarzenberg". It was the SS-Obersturmbannführer der Reserve Richard Einspennera, which commanded the front of my zarazenim to Feldersatz-Regiment "Schwarzenberg" (roughly from 1.July 1944) SS-Art.E.Rgt..
