M-46 - 130 mm field cannon, characterized by a long, slender barrel with a cylindrical perforated muzzle brake and a hydropneumatic shock absorber located below and above the barrel. The cannon has manual control, uses divided ammunition and is equipped with a sight that allows aiming even at night (active and/or passive infrared sight) The weapon itself is placed on a single-axle chassis, during transport it is equipped with a second auxiliary axle. The M-46 was used in artillery divisions of artillery regiments/brigades at the level of the army and front. The great advantage of the weapon is the possibility of indirect shooting at long distances (up to 27490 m) with a high muzzle velocity. It also has a very good effect in direct anti-tank firing. Frequent use of parts is in anti-artillery fire. The cannon was first shown to the public in May 1954 and was known in NATO as the M1954. Since 1978, after the introduction of other works capable of firing nuclear ammunition, the cannon was gradually decommissioned and sold to other countries. The operator is protected only at the front by a front shield with a thickness of 7 mm. The work was also produced in China under the designation Type 59.

In early August 2022, the Ukrainian army received 12 pieces of 130mm M46 (H1) cannons from Kharkiv. After the DSV, these Soviet guns were introduced into the arsenal of the Yugoslav army. There is information circulating on the Internet that the range was increased to 37 km by using projectiles with additional propulsion. However, South Slavic literature does not mention the development and introduction of this type of ammunition. However, unconfirmed sources claim that Iranian and Chinese munitions factories have developed such munitions. Source: defence-ua.com www.jutarnji.hr
