1999 - 2009 2. rusko-čečenská válka

2nd Russian-Chechen War
.

Between the spring of 1997 and the summer of 1999, Chechnya lived a relatively peaceful life on the outside.

But the reality was much worse. The money was obtained both by standard kidnappings and by counterfeiting, drug trafficking and mainly from the illegal extraction and distribution of stolen oil from the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline. President Maskhadov had to constantly fight for power and control over Chechnya with leaders of various clans, mobsters and also popular " field commanders "who took advantage of the enormous poverty of the local population. In their "districts", they, together with their mercenary companions, made their own policies and submitted only formally to the official government. Several former pioneer camps have been converted into terrorist training centers, covering the full spectrum of guerrilla and terrorist skills. In July 1998, there were large-scale shootings in the town of Gudermes, controlled by the Yamadayev brothers (standing on the side of Maskhadov) and fighters of radical Wahhabis. And the violence continued. For example, Shahid Bargishev, Chechen's main kidnapping leader, was killed by a bomb in October, and Mansur Tagirov, Chechen's chief prosecutor, was abducted in early December of that year. For the government . Maskhad's it was a bitter box, but he himself remained completely unsupported and was not able to do anything about it. On March 19, 1999, fifty people were killed in a terrorist attack on the market in Vladikavkaz, North Ossetia. And in April, several senior officers were killed in a raid on a convoy of Russian troops in Ingushetia. In all cases, local "liberation" fronts joined the attacks, largely under the influence of Chechen and international terrorists. Reason for war

No one will find out what happened in the war-tired brain of the "general" Shamil Basayev (after the end of the "first "war was formally appointed to the rank of" divisional general "of the Armed Forces of the Chechen Republic Ichkerija), who could comfortably live his life as a war hero. Instead, in August 1999, he supported the "liberation expedition" of several hundred Chechen militants to neighboring Dagestan. Perhaps he succumbed to the temptation to become the leader of his own "emirate" when he failed at home against Maskhadov. As in the previous war, the following events are clouded by a lot of rumors and mutual propaganda. The motivations and actions of individual actors are very difficult to reconstruct, because much information remains inaccessible to the public. At least there is agreement that in early August, several hundred Chechen and Dagestan fighters crossed the mountain pass into Dagestan territory in Cumadin district and tried to declare an "Islamic state" in the village of Agvali. At the same time, several other border villages were occupied in the neighboring district of Botlich. The situation escalated on August 9, when two helicopters were hit by mortar fire during an attack on a field airfield Mi-8. On August 10, the assault forces moved to the vicinity of the village of Tando and their presence was also reported near the administrative center of the district of Botlich. Another Russian helicopter was shelled the next day near the village of Novokuli in the Novolakskoye district. During the subsequent emergency landing, in addition to other officers, Lt. Gen. Viktor Kuznetsov.

In addition to Basayev and his Arab ally Ibn Chattaba, the local Dagestan Wahhabis were behind the whole event. , an association led by the Prime Minister of "Islamic Dagestan", S. Ramazanov and also a certain N. Khachayayev. Many volunteers from the surrounding Caucasian countries and mercenaries from Central Asia and Arab countries also fought in their ranks. Their units were armed with a large number of weapons and ammunition, but on the other hand had only a small number of heavier support weapons.Surprisingly, the locals did not show much enthusiasm for their actions and largely opposed this "fraternal help".

Compared to previous events, the reaction of the federal Russian and local authorities was much more thoughtful. SKVO units, under the command of gen.plk. Viktor Kazantsev were put on high alert. Militia members were mobilized to secure the rear and border guards were reinforced. In the first phase, there were two army motorized rifle battalions from the 136th OMsBr., A motorized unit formed from members of the 102nd OBRON VV MV and a special purpose section MV "Rus". The local leadership was also contributed by the OMON unit (essentially a reinforced motorized rifle battalion) of the Dagestan Ministry of the Interior. However, instead of an immediate attack on enemy positions, these units concentrated on isolating the enclaves of the militants and waiting for the arrival of further reinforcements. The Russian command learned from the mistakes of the past and tried to achieve numerical superiority over the militants. Reinforcements came in the form of a division of paratroopers from Ulyanovsk and Pskov. Later, members of the "elite" Stavropol Airborne Brigade, a motorized rifle regiment from Volgograd and mountain units of the 58th Army also took part in the fighting. Air support was provided by several dozen helicopters and aircraft. After about two weeks of fighting, weakened enemy units were pushed out of villages in both border districts and retreated to Chechnya. The Russian Air Force conducted several dozen reconnaissance and combat flights, and together with the artillery played a significant role in blocking the militants in their positions and cutting them off from supplies. Several so-called: volume-detonating bombs of the type ODAB- were "unofficially" used to expel enemies from their trenches and field shelters. 500. Then the focus shifted to two semi-independent "Islamic" enclaves in the villages of Karamachi and Chabanmachi in the Bujnak District in central Dagestan. Russian troops also fought fiercely with well-fortified and armed defenders. During combat activities in support of ground troops here also crashed one aircraft Su-25, most likely after a technical fault. Even during the fighting in Bujnaksk, a strong detachment of Chechen fighters re-formed and invaded Dagestan in the Novolaksk district. The Russian command was surprised by the sudden development, but in cooperation with the Dagestan Omonians and local militiamen, until September 12, the militants were pushed out and their positions in the mentioned villages were occupied. The changes that have taken place in the last three years at the level of command and control of troops have brought about improved mutual communication and coordination between the various types of deployed units, but this time was too short to thoroughly master the new operational procedures. Many more joint staff and field exercises will be needed to achieve an appropriate level of mutual coordination. According to official figures, 275 federal soldiers were killed and another 937 wounded during the fighting in Dagestan. The losses of local armed forces and volunteers are estimated at several dozen dead and wounded. The losses of Chechen and Dagestan militants could not be reliably ascertained, but according to information, most of their divisions were significantly weakened in the fighting.

The situation further escalated after a series of terrorist attacks on residential buildings in Moscow, Volgodonsk, Bujnaksk and the Caspian region, which claimed more than three hundred lives. Russian authorities have accused Muslim radicals and, indirectly, the Chechen leadership of assassinations. These serious allegations were later criticized several times, and allegations were made that the Russian secret services were behind the assassinations, trying to get an excuse to start a war. At present, it is not possible to determine to what extent these assumptions are based on facts, but it is true that there have been suspiciously many strange circumstances surrounding them (similar to the events of 9/11). The decision was immediately made to close the Chechen border and prevent the infiltration of militants into Dagestan and Ingushetia. The transfer of fighting in Chechnya and its occupation were not yet planned, and Russian politicians have denied it, even though intensive space and aerial reconnaissance has already taken place. He concentrated mainly on the area of Vedeno and Urus-Martan, where several of the most famous field commanders had their bases. Aircraft of the type Su-24MR "Fencer", together with propeller aircraft An-30B "Clank". It is probably that a smaller number of powerful aircraft were deployed MiG-25 RBš "Foxbat ". At the beginning of September, the Russian Air Force undertook several raids on supply bases and training camps in Chechnya. Although some commanders proposed the deployment of heavy bombers Tu-22 M3 "Backfire", according to the commander of the Russian Air Force gene. Col. Anatoly Kornukov, this variant was rejected.

More than 50,000 Russian troops are ready in Dagestan, Ingushetia and South Russian districts. The basis was the motorized rifle and tank units of the 58th Army SKVO, as well as armored guards and motorized rifle units of the Moscow, Leningrad, Volga-Ural and Siberian circuits. Several airborne battalions and Marines from Kaliningrad were also a great reinforcement for Russian troops. In order to improve mutual communication and simplify decision-making processes at the highest levels of command, the Joint Group of Troops (Objedninnenaja Gruppirovka Vojsk) was formed in Mozdok. This included the staff units of the SKVO, the 58th Army, the Ministry of the Interior, the FBS, the Border Troops, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Railway Troops. Gen. was appointed commander. Col. Viktor Kazancev, chief of staff then gen. pore. Alexandr Baranov. From the units in Dagestan territory was formed "Eastern" group under the command of Gen. pore. Gennady Trosev, the "Northern" group was entrusted to the command of Gen. pore. Vladimir Bulgakov and the "Western" group under the command of Gen. pore. Vladimir Shamanov. The air support of Russian troops was to be provided by combat aircraft and helicopters of the 4th Air Force (with the support of several air divisions from the state of the Volga military district). Already during September, the concentration of helicopter units reached a considerable level. In addition to about thirty battleships Mi-24V/P "Hind and a similar number of multipurpose Mi-8T/MT "Hip", there were also eight heavy transport Mi-26 "Halo" Gizeľ) and the rest were placed at the base in Mozdok, as an operational reserve, and these units were supplemented by other machines from the air units of the Ministry of the Interior and the Border Guard.

The other party was not idle either, martial law was declared and the president Maskhadov declared mobilization. Chechen divisions consisted of a total of about 15,000 soldiers of the "National Guard", members of the "clan" militia, border guards and several hundred mercenaries from Afghanistan, Bosnia, Turkey and Arab countries. After the losses in the First War, their armament consisted of only a few serviceable tanks and a few dozen armored personnel carriers of various types. Unlike the First War, now Chechen anti-aircraft units had to rely more on proven anti-aircraft cannons ZU-23-2 or large-caliber machine guns DšK and NSV caliber 14.5 and 12.7 mm. From the arsenal of portable anti-aircraft missiles, there were a number of older types Strela-2 and 3, or more modern Igla-1.A couple of American FIM-92A Stinger was smuggled from Afghanistan, but their deployment was limited by the lack of operator training and the age of the missiles themselves.

Kromě toho vrtulníky prováděly zásobování a odsun raněných a vysazovaly průzkumné oddíly Specnaz do týlu čečenů.

1. října vstoupila válka do nové fáze. Předseda ruské vlády Vladimír Putin prohlásil vládu Aslana Maschadova za nelegitimní a odstartoval pozemní operaci v Čečensku. Samotná operace probíhala velmi odlišně. Ruské jednotky postupovaly mnohem rozvážněji a za neustálé podpory bitevních letounů a vrtulníků. Intenzivní letecké operace si žel vyžádaly i ztráty.

října pokračoval postup ruských jednotek přes řeku Terek do nitra Čečenska, s cílem obklíčit Groznyj a zamezit ústupu ozbrojenců do hor na jihu.

Mnohé bunkry a muniční sklady byly opravdu bytelnými stavbami zhotovenými z kamení a betonu, opatřené pečlivým maskováním.

Mnohé pozice a strategické budovy několikrát změnily majitele. Gen. maj. A. Lencovem.

People are dying, but who cares?

Despite the occupation of Grozny, the situation at the turn of February and March was far from normal. At the end of February, though. Col. Gennady Toshev declared the operation a success, but admitted that several dozen scattered groups had retreated to the mountains in the south. That was true, but although the Chechens were exhausted and weakened by the retreat to the mountains, they were far from defeated.

Combat operations in Chechnya have become a welcome opportunity for the Russian armed forces to test new technology in terms of actual combat deployment. According to published information, the most modern T-90S tanks were deployed during the last battles. About a dozen tanks originally intended for an Indian customer were quickly ready for deployment and sent to Dagestan. In battles, the tanks proved very successful and confirmed high-quality armor protection. Workers of the Kazan Helicopter Plant thus experimentally equipped several helicopters Mi-8 (MTKO) thermal imaging, night vision and anti-aircraft missile warning systems. In some sources, the deployment of combat aircraft is also mentioned Su-25T. Deployment of more modern Su-25TM (offers such as Su-39 Strike Shield or "SuperGrač"), or fighter-bombers Su-30 or MiG-29SMT is not confirmed.

Much more interesting information was the publication of the course of operational and military tests of the most modern helicopters Kamov Ka-50. A pair of these machines were moved to a base in Mozdok in November 1999 to verify combat characteristics. Escort provided multi-purpose Ka-29 from the production plant and several Mi-8 a Mi-24. However, the deployment of the Ka-50 in Chechnya sounded a bit empty. Despite the indisputable qualities and combat effectiveness that both machines demonstrated during their deployment, it was not possible to reliably fine-tune the deployment tactics with the crews of older machines Mi-24. In addition, the entire deployment was reduced to a few weeks in January and February. Some commanders may have been too worried about losing one of their state-of-the-art helicopters and the resulting difficulty in explaining such inconveniences.

Shootouts and fighting continued even after the retreat of the Chechens from Grozny. In the villages through which their divisions retreated, they were surrounded by Russian troops, followed by more or less long and intense fighting and clean-up operations. An extremely bad series hit Russian troops on February 29 and March 1. During the first mentioned incident, the OMON unit from Perm came under fire from the Chechens near the village of Centoroj. During the fight with the Chechen fighters, the commander of the Maj division fell. V. Smirnov and only six soldiers out of a total of forty-eight were saved. Another bad news was the incident in which members of the OMON divisions from Podolsk and Sergiev from Posad were shot by mistake. Twenty-two soldiers were killed and thirty-one wounded. Much more frightening, however, was the fight of members of the 6th Company / 104. regiment, 76th GvVDD. On February 29, the division deployed at "elevation 776" near the village of Ulus-Kert, where, together with other troops, it was to block the Argun Pass and prevent the retreat of Chechen troops withdrawing from the Grozny area. Unfortunately, their position stood directly in the retreat route of about a thousand Chechen fighters, including the toughest "wrestlers" from the field commander ibn-Chattab's division (but this information is mentioned only in some sources). Exhausted and desperate, they had no choice but to penetrate the positions of the Russian paratroopers if they wanted to break through the siege and save their wounded and sick comrades.Within hours of intense fighting, Russian troops began to run out of ammunition and many were wounded. The unit could neither be rescued nor reinforced, and their position deteriorated rapidly. The final phase of the fighting is based on the few testimonies of the survivors, but it is likely that the division commander, Lt. Col. In a desperate attempt to prevent the fall of his position and the capture of his men, M. Yevtuchinov ordered artillery fire on his position. In some sources, the artillery and air attack was interpreted as "friendly fire" caused by false information from the Chechens, who uncovered Russian radio frequencies and misinformed the command. During this undeniably brutal and in a sense "heroic" struggle, a total of eighty-four Russian soldiers were killed and only one of the five survivors remained unharmed. There were thirteen soldiers for their heroism, including the commander, Lt. Col. Yevtuchinova awarded the Order of Hero of Russia and the remaining soldiers of the Order of Courage.

Within a few days, units of Field Commander Ruslan "Hamzat" Gelayev also retreated from Grozny in an effort to reach the Argun area. On March 4, a large number of militants, including those seriously wounded, were seen occupying the village of Komsomolskoye, where they were to be evacuated to safety under an agreement with A. Barayev. Barayev himself, probably by agreement with the Russian command, betrayed his former comrades-in-arms and Komsomolskoye was surrounded by Russian troops. Although it was supposed to be only a few dozen exhausted "bandits", the subsequent fighting required the deployment of much stronger units. After two weeks of hard fighting, the Chechens were finally pushed out of the rubble of the village. According to published data, 600 fighters from the original approximately 1,000 were killed or captured. However, many of them were wounded and sick, who died without medical help. Gelaev himself fled with a handful of his loyalists, and several dozen of his warriors also penetrated the siege. Russian troops admitted to losing about 350 dead and wounded. During the fighting, the commander of the "western" group of troops of the Ministry of Interior, Col. Mikhail Ravenko. It was not possible to determine the exact number of civilians dead. In the end, Barayev did not escape his fate anyway. According to the official version, he was killed in June during an operation by Russian troops in the village of Alchan-Kala. (According to another version, this adventurer was, in fact, a double agent, who was used by the Russian FSB for dirty work.

On May 7, a Russian Su-24MR aircraft was destroyed in a plane crash. According to the commission of inquiry, the aircraft was destroyed in a crash into a mountain ridge near Benoi-Vedeno, although it is an aircraft equipped with radar for flight in the "terrain copying mode". It was probably a system failure or a crew error.

Between May and August, Chechen militants attacked several Russian supply convoys, claiming the dead and wounded. For example, on May 11, a convoy near the village of Galaški in Ingushetia was raided, at the beginning of June a large clean-up operation took place directly in Grozny, and in July, fighting took place near the village of Avturi. Terrorist attacks and assassinations have also taken their toll. As early as May 31, Sergei Zverev was killed by a bomb blast and the mayor of Grozny, S. Machchaev, was seriously injured. On 2 and 3 July, a series of coordinated terrorist attacks took place on security forces' buildings, killing at least 50 people, mostly officials and police.

Shootouts, bombings and subsequent clean-up operations, "purges" continued with varying intensity practically throughout the year 2000 and only confirmed that the return to "peaceful life" in Chechnya will be extremely difficult. It was these actions that were criticized by international human rights organizations, which criticized the brutal actions of Russian troops during house searches and interrogations of detainees.

Over the following years, the situation seemed to calm down, or rather the problem of Chechnya was slowly disappearing from the eyes of journalists.Undoubtedly, the fact that, unlike in previous years, the activities of the armed forces' press units was closely coordinated also contributed to this. The possibility of unrestricted action for independent journalists was severely curtailed, which in turn contributed to greater freedom for commanders, who did not have to fear negative information in the evening news and subsequent explanations. On the other hand, this has drastically reduced the possibility of public scrutiny and the possibility of drawing attention to violence against the civilian population.

But beneath the surface, the conflict continued to smolder. Almost regularly, Chechen militants attacked Russian patrols, checkpoints, or local pro-Russian government officials. The number of Russian troops in Chechnya decreased after the detachment of units that were "borrowed" from other military districts. Other duties of army units were gradually taken over by units of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of the Interior and newly formed Chechen divisions. Their deployment was the result of a policy of "Chechenization", which was to prove once again the normalization of conditions and remove from Russian troops the burden of the tasks of law enforcement. That it will not be an easy task was shown by the raid on the convoy in Argun, which killed at least 15 soldiers. Another air disaster that struck the Russian Air Force occurred on June 14, when two Su-25 patrol aircraft disappeared from air traffic control screens in the Shatto region, in the village of Itum-Kale. During the investigation of the incident, a commission headed by the Deputy Commander of the Air Force was Gen. pore. V. Mikhail found that both pilots probably lost their orientation and died after hitting the mountain range. In less than two weeks, on June 26, a Mi-8 helicopter was damaged by fire during an operation in support of the border guard. In mid-August 2001, heavy fighting broke out in the Veden district. On August 13, the Chechen detachment occupied the village of Benoi-Yurt north of Vedeno. Local police stations and other pro-Russian administration offices were looted and set on fire. Subsequently, Russian reinforcements were brought into the area and the cleaning of the village began. In addition, on August 15, a Russian Mi-24 "Hind" combat helicopter was shot down north of the village of Cavedeno. The fighting in this area finally subsided around August 25. Another raid on a Russian military convoy was carried out on August 29 in the village of Oktyabrskoye (Kurchaloevsky District), in which at least twelve Russian soldiers died. As if there wasn't enough bad news, another helicopter was shot down on September 17 directly above the Chankal air base. In addition to several senior army officers, Gen. May. Pavel Varfolomeev and Anatoly Pozdnyakov. Heavy skirmishes with a strong detachment of Chechens took place in the same period in the cities of Gudrmes and Argun. Helicopters were a naturally attractive target, and another was shot down again on January 27, 2002. The helicopter belonged to the air division of the Ministry of the Interior, and on board it, in addition to other high-ranking officers, they also carried a gene. pore. M. Rudčenka (Deputy Minister of the Interior) and gen. May. N. Goridov (Deputy Commander of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Interior). No one on board the helicopter survived the disaster.

There have been large-scale terrorist attacks on several occasions, especially with the use of suicide bombers. The greatest media attention was given to the events organized by Shamil Basayev. Among others, it was the shooting down of a military helicopter directly above the base of Chankal. On August 19, 2002, the Chechen diversionary units managed to hit a heavy transport helicopter Mi-26 "Halo" with a portable anti-aircraft missile (perhaps type 9K310 Igla). There were nearly one hundred and fifty soldiers on board, far exceeding his authorized payload. The hit helicopter immediately crashed, killing at least 127 soldiers. Subsequent investigations revealed that flight safety regulations had been violated and that several officers had been prosecuted by the military prosecutor's office. Another helicopter, this time an offensive Mi-24, was shot down on August 31 at Nožaj-Yurt. In September, the division of Field Commander "Hamzat" Gelayev decided to raid the villages of Terskoye and Gelaški on Ingushetia.During the fighting, they apparently managed to shoot down a Russian Mi-24 helicopter, yet his division again came under siege and many fighters were killed or captured.

Another of the Basayev-style spectacular events took place on October 23, 2002, when a detachment of about forty terrorists, under the command of Movsar Barayev, occupied the Moscow Theater in Dubrovnik and captured at least seven hundred hostages. The Chechens demanded, above all, the departure of Russian troops, which was not only politically unacceptable but also practically impossible. After three days, the building was occupied by Russian special forces and the hostages were released. However, the operation ended in a very controversial situation, when several dozen people died as a result of poisoning by the gas used in the event and as a result of poorly organized subsequent medical assistance by the hostages.

The sad number of senior Russian officers and officials killed in Chechnya was expanded on 16 November by Gen. pore. Igor Šifrin, Chief of Glavspecstroje (Main Administration of Special Buildings of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation), shot dead by militants during the raid in Grozny. As if there wasn't enough bad news, another attack took place on December 27. Seventy people were killed and another 200 were injured in a suicide attack on a complex of government buildings. As usual, Šamil Basajev joined the attack.

The Russian government's efforts to stabilize the situation gradually began to move towards the establishment of pro-Russian administration and local government. In May 2000, a caretaker government was formed, led by Akhmat Kadirov, a former Chechen "mufti" calling for action against the Russians. In February 2003, a new Chechen constitution was approved by referendum and Kadyrov was elected Chechen "president." But the following year, on May 9, he was killed in a bombing at the "Victory over Fascism" celebrations. Commander of Russian troops in Chechnya gen. May. Grigory Fomenko and Commander of the Troops of the North Caucasus Military District Gen. Col. Valery Baranov, were wounded. According to some reports, the attack was the work of Chechen insurgents, who took revenge on the death of former Chechen President Zeljimhan Jandarbiyev. He was killed on February 13, 2004 in an assassination attempt in Qatar, which, according to many reports, was supposed to be the Russian GRU with the assistance of the SVR (External Intelligence Service).

On the night of June 21-22, 2004, Chechen fighters raided the Ingush metropolis of Nazran. Fighters under the command of Basayev, Doku Umarov and local commanders attacked more than a dozen important government and police buildings during the coordinated operation, including the Ministry of the Interior, the FBS Border Guard and the ammunition depot. Many of the attackers wore stolen police uniforms and stopped and inspected cars at checkpoints. Several police officers were taken hostage. It was not until the morning of June 22 that the members of the 503rd Motorized Rifle Regiment went into action. However, they themselves were attacked and their attack was slowed down. Then the Chechens withdrew, leaving behind destroyed offices and many dead. Among the victims were Deputy Minister of the Interior A. Kostoyev and his deputy Z. Kotiyev, Prosecutor M. Buzurtanov and Prosecutor of the Nazran Region B. Oziyev. Another similar raid took place on June 13 in Avturi, but a much bloodier series was to come at the turn of August and September. During the night of August 22, a large group of about 300 Chechen fighters broke into Grozny, where they struck police stations, killing at least sixty police and soldiers. Ninety people were killed in an attack on airliners on August 27. Two days later, ten people were killed in an explosion in the Moscow metro. But the bloodiest drama took place on September 1, 2004, during the traditional start of the new school year. The terrorist unit was then occupied by a primary school in North Ossetian Beslan. The terrorists took at least a thousand hostages, especially children, their parents and teachers. After two days of unsuccessful negotiations, a hostage rescue operation was launched. It is not clear from the information obtained whether any of the charges were accidentally initiated or an order to attack was issued, it is certain that what followed quickly turned into a terrible tragedy. In the headless fire of terrorists, local militiamen and often even desperate parents with submachine guns, a special anti-terrorist unit tried to occupy the building. A total of 331 hostages and 11 members of a special unit died in a very chaotic and poorly organized liberation operation. This drama once again shed a bad light on the overall security situation in the region, in particular the lack of suitable counter-terrorism units, poor organization and local government corruption. Šamil Basajev, who acted without the knowledge of Maskhadov, who condemned the action against civilians, joined the event again.

Over the years, the number of Russian troops crystallized to 25,000 men of army units and units of the Ministry of the Interior. They are based on the 42nd Guards of the Jpatoria Motorized Rifle Division with 15,000 soldiers. It is under the command of the 58th Army of the North Caucasus Military District and its bases are deployed in Čankal, Šali, Kalinovsko and Borzoja. Another 10,000 soldiers form the 46th Independent Operational Brigade of the Internal Forces of the Ministry of the Interior. Around 3,000 border guards patrol the section of the border with Georgia, and other motorized brigades are deployed in Naľčik, Vladikavkaz, Nazrani and Machačkale. Special police units and FBS anti-terrorist units are also regularly sent on "trips" to Chechnya. Armament is more or less standard, tanks T-72 BV and combat vehicles BMP-1 / 2. It is still possible to find reliable T-62 M in the troops of the Ministry of the Interior, used for fire support. Tanks T-80 and vehicles BMP-3, appeared at the beginning of the campaign, but were evaluated as too sensitive to maintenance and due to the absence of similar means on the Chechen side and as unnecessary. In defense against RPG warheads, "grate armor" modeled on US Army M1126 Stryker vehicles in Iraq is increasingly appearing on tanks and armored vehicles. The equipment and living conditions of the deployed soldiers have significantly improved. Many of the units in charge of the Chechen region are already practically entirely composed of professional soldiers and "contractors" (similar to professional soldiers). In recent years, several new bases have been built, which provide significantly greater comfort. Regularly paid and quite decent salary, together with other social benefits certainly contributes to a better moral condition of individual soldiers. Armament and equipment have also improved. In addition to standard assault rifles AK-74 / M are still popular and older AKM (s podvěšeným grátometem GP-25) a odstřelovačky SVD, Vintorez, or newer SV-98. The heavy 12.7 mm V-94 sniper rifles are also popular. The vast majority of soldiers use a mixture of standard army camouflage and civilian variations in various combinations, including backpacks, tactical vests and footwear, but unlike previous years, this is still progress. Modern bulletproof vests and Kevlar helmets and night vision systems are also much more widespread. Some of the newly formed brigades of the North Caucasus Military District are specifically focused on combat in the mountains, including training and equipment.

An interesting element is the official pro-Russian security forces. Originally, these units were created as a militia to defend against individual groups of fighters, sometimes under the patronage of the Russian FSB or the army GRU. During effective lobbying Achmat Kadyrov there was a "run over" of many original separatists, who were included in the ranks of the republican Ministry of the Interior, or his personal protection. His security empire, under the watchful eye of his son Ramzan has grown from several hundred to 17,000 (?) able-bodied men. Their composition is really diverse and includes the Protection of Supreme Government Officials, the Counter-Terrorism Center (formerly the President's Security Service) comprising two separate divisions North and South officially under the Ministry of Interior of the Russian Federation, OMON Section of the Interior Ministry, Special Forces Militia Regiment such units as Neftpolk (militia regiment responsible for guarding oil facilities and pipelines) financed from Grozneftgaz. Their deployment, of course, provoked a storm of resentment, due to the frequent violence and looting they committed in actions against "bandits". In addition to the section Ramzan Kadyrova (named after his commander "Kadyrovci"), are also "famous" Said units -Magomeda Khakiev (Battalion West) and Sulim Yamadayeva (Battalion Vostok) formally under military command. During the war years, several important Chechen commanders were killed or captured during security operations. Already in March 2000, Salman Radujev was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment. In December 2002, however, he died "suddenly" in a penal colony due to "internal bleeding." In 2002, a well-known Arab mercenary was also killed ibn-Chattab and for two years he was air attack "eliminated" and his successor Abu Walid. On February 17, Junadi Turchayev, known as "Emir" of Grozny, was killed during the shootout, and on March 23, 2005, Field Commander Rizvan Chitigov was announced killed. In the following months and years, there was another leader of the separatists, including the moderate Aslana Maschadova (killed March 8, 2005 in the village of Tolstoy-Yurt) and his successor "Abdul-Halima" Saidulayev (killed after a shootout on June 17, 2006, in Argun). The new "president" is Doku Umarov, who is the last known field commander and representative of the old guard. Others, such as Akhmad Zakayev or Iliad Ahmadov, live in exile.

The last major event attributed to Basayev was the raid on Nalchik, the capital of the Kabardino-Balkaria Republic in southern Russia. On October 13, 2005, several dozen heavily armed Chechens and their local supporters targeted FBS offices, border guards, police and law enforcement headquarters, and local airports. During heavy fighting, reinforcements of about 2,000 Internal Troops and OMON soldiers were called to the scene. Both sides lost about thirty forty men. Among those killed was one of the leaders of the attack, Iliad Gorchchanov.

In the end, the most sought-after and media-famous Šamíla Basajeva, who died in an explosion of a car crammed with explosives near the Ingush village, Ekazevo on July 10, 2006. Russian politicians welcomed his death, but it is debatable how the situation in Chechnya will develop, given the Russian government's declared willingness to grant amnesty to those militants who voluntarily surrender and have not committed any terrorist act.

Patnáct let konfliktu zanechalo v myslích a srdcích bezpochyby hlubokou brázdu. I pouhé pokusy vyčíslit lidské a materiální ztráty jsou značně masochistickým podnikem.

Řeky Terek, Argun, Sunža a podzemní vody v blízkosti těchto řek jsou plné ropných produktů a těžkých kovů z ilegální těžby a rafinace ropy.

Údaje o počtech ruských vojáků a příslušníků dalších bezpečnostních složek, zabitých a zraněných za posledních deset let mluví až o 5 000 mrtvých.

Sledujem a študujem konflikty v tejto oblasti už dlhší čas a jedno čo môžem jednoznačne tvrdiť je, čečenský bojovníci zničili väčšinu ruskej opancierovanej techniky práve ručnými (pechotnými) zbraňami! Prišla o takmer 100% opancierovanej techniky len a len zásahmi RPG!

Citace - Panzer :

Sledujem a študujem konflikty v tejto oblasti už dlhší čas a jedno čo môžem jednoznačne tvrdiť je, čečenský bojovníci zničili väčšinu ruskej opancierovanej techniky práve ručnými (pechotnými) zbraňami!

Kvalita pancíře by mohla být prokázána pouze pokud by čečeni měli k dispozici bitevníky, PT dělostřelectvo či vlastní obrněnou techniku srovnatelné úrovně.

Když referuješ o napadení civilistů rusy, jedná se o politováníhodné selhání jednotlivců, kteří neustáli psychický tlak (klidně jsi mohl napsat o "běsnění okupačních vojsk nemajících slitování ani s ženami a dětmi" Razz)

A takhle bych mohl pokračovat dlouho.

Mea Culpa...
Čeština nieje môj rodný jazyk a uznávam, že je to nevýhoda keď nemám nikoho koho by som mohol požiadať a jazykovú korektúru. Moje nasledujúce príspevky sa budem snažiť písať v slovenčine.

K otázke nestrannosti: tá nebude nikdy. Som len človek chybujúci a omylný. Mám svoje názory, skúsenosti, sympatie a antipatie. Budanova a vôbec nenávisť voči kavkazským národom.
