(LMV = Light Multipurpose Vehicle)

Light armored vehicle designed for the execution of the transport, patrol and escort tasks in the ability to lead the combat activities against the manpower and lightly armored targets.

The development of the resource was launched in 1999 as a private initiative of the company IVECO Defence Vehicles with the aim to design an armoured vehicle category 4x4 with high load capacity, průchodivostí and resistance to landmines. The first prototype of the LMV (PT0) was completed in 2001 and subsequently underwent a driving test, in which drove about 10 000 km. The company IVECO from your finance not only the production of the first prototype, but also the other ten (: PT01 to PT10), by the end of 2002 in the program "poured" from its approximately 40 million €. In addition to the test program the manufacturer (e.g., ballistic tests in Germany) prototypes engage in tests with potential customers, so the end of the year-2002 vehicle najezdila over 100 000 km. Prototype PT03 has been tested by the Italian army, in the framework of its tests travelled 24 000 km. Prototype PT05 participated in the intensive tests with the british army. The last two prototypes were completed at the end of 2003 and in their design to reflect the experience primarily of the tests of the prototype of PT05 by the British and then even from their own tests of the manufacturer. The most noticeable change in the last two prototypes PT09 and PT10 is the higher the comfort and safety of the crew, which on the contrary a toll in the form of enlargement of the height of the vehicle by 80 mm (because of that LMV can not be transported inside the helicopter CH-47 Chinook). Minor adjustments were made to the suspension and drivetrain of the vehicle.

At the end of 2003, the Italian army ordered a first 66 vehicles. The first two were delivered at the end of 2004, when he joined the military tests in the test centre in Montelibretti near Rome. The tests were terminated during the year 2005, after which it was LMV introduced into the armament of the Italian army under the name VTLM Lince (or the VTLM-1 and VTLM-1A). The last vehicle from the start of the order were delivered in September 2006. Of the total number of 66 were purchased 30 vehicles without armor (only with a floor resistant in the explosion of mines). Seven of them were later retrofitted armor kits. The first six Line was deployed in the framework of the Italian contingent operating in Afghanistan in October 2006. Probably the first incident - the cursor on an improvised explosive booby-trap - occurred on Saturday, 23. February 2008, about 30 km north of Delarámu in the province of Faráh. None of the members of the crew was not injured. From then until the end of 2009 had to VTLM Lince face roughly ten other explosive traps or suicide bombers.

After first ordering 66 vehicles to the Italian army ordered a further 1150 vehicles LMV, which was delivered in the term of five years. The italians assume that the number of vehicles LMV (in different versions) could have in the arsenal of their army reach the number of around 7700 cars.

IVECO Defence Vehicles have joined forces with british manufacturer Alvis Vickers (later BAE Systems Land Systems) and together with the přihásily in the selection procedure of the british army's FCLV (Future Command and Liaison Vehicle) with a modified LMV, called the Panther CLV. In June 2003 he was the winner of the tender announced by BAE Systems, in which the british army on the basis of a contract concluded in November 2003, ordered the 401 vehicles Panther with an option for another 400. In September 2007, it was delivered the first 56 cars that received 1. a mechanized brigade. The Panther CLV was in the arsenal of the Royal Army introduced in June 2008. At the same time, already was the military taken over 217 of the Panthers, the last of them should be according to the schedule delivered in September 2009. License production takes place (took place) in the race to BAe Systems in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne. Panthers CLV have inter alia to fulfill the command, staff and reconnaissance tasks and in the arsenal of the british troops gradually replace the Land Rover vehicles, Saxon, FV 432 or CVRT. The panthers have a number of seats for passengers reduced to 3. Their armament consists of weapon station Enforcer RCWS developed by the israeli Rafael, but produced under license for the british AEI Ordnance Systems. The price of one vehicle Panther CLV was approximately £405 000.

On the basis of the contracts to IVECO Defence Vehicles and BAE Systems Land Systems may british manufacturer to offer originally Italian vehicles under the name of MLV (Multipurpose Lightweight Vehicle) markets in the Middle east and Far east.

In the order of the third operator of the vehicle LMV became the belgian army, when she was in August 2005 with the Italian manufacturer signed a contract for the supply of 440 vehicles selected in the tender for light armored vehicles, which should be in the arsenal of the belgian army to replace the light cars of the Volkswagen Iltis.

The tender was published in 2004 and was attended by seven companies. The original belgian requirement for 830 vehicles (300 with armor) was later reduced to 620 (of which 180 with armor). 24. December 2004, however, the procedure was cancelled and again re-evaluated. Offers of the individual participants were submitted again in mid-may 2005 and the winner was announced in July of the same year. In addition to the 440 vehicles were supplied IVECO 120 sets of armour. The contract included an option for another two series of vehicles after 90 pieces and 30 pieces of armor kits.

In march 2006, the Norwegian army ordered 25 vehicles LMV (with options for another 47) at a cost of € 8 million. The first 10 units should be made by the end of 2006. Delivery of the last (25.) the piece took place in April 2007. At the end of the same year a decision was made to use under contract option. Due to the urgent operational needs of the commissioned in 2007, ten vehicles LMV Croatia. In the year 2012, according to the plans should the Croatian army to take over the other 84 cars LMV.

In November 2007, the list of users has grown about Spain. The contract was closed in response to the loss of the Spanish troops in foreign operations, where the use of age-old carriers BMR with ballistic protection insufficient when to detonate the IED. In the framework of the recovery plan for armored vehicles is to be for the Spanish army gradually delivered 395 cars LMV and 180 vehicles RG31 Mk5E Nyala. In the first phase (until 2009) was taken 120 pieces of LMV for a total amount of 37.2 million €. The vehicle was delivered from the end of 2008. The second phase of the acquisition process will be carried out between the years 2009 and 2010. The first four of the Spanish LMV were the Spanish forward support base in afghanistan's Herat transported 23. September 2008. To 6. October of the same year should be in Afghanistan transported 17 vehicles of this type.

29. December 2008 signed by the austrian ministry of defence contract for the delivery of 150 vehicles LMV in six different versions (including logistical support) for around € 104 million. All vehicles will be equipped with a weapons station ERCWS-M from israeli manufacturer Elbit, which will be supplemented by a warning system MTDS (Multi-Threat Detection System). Contract for Elbit had the amount of 25 million €. Deliveries should take place from the end of 2010 to the end of 2016. LMV in service with the Bundesheeru partially replaced by soft skin vehicles such as the Pinzgauer or Puch G.

LMV has a modularly-designed ballistic protection. Monoblock cabin in the basic version provides a more significant protection only against mines. Passive protection of the vehicle can be increased relatively easily instalovatelnými kits additional armour. It is designed so that visually you can't be practically able to recognize which set of armor is just mounted. LMV is offered in versions with a wheelbase of 3200 mm or 3500 mm. The chassis can be installed in standard, short or an open cab. The cabin in the basic version allows you to in addition to the driver to transport four persons (the three persons in the british offshoots of the Panther CLV). In the roof it is placed a circular hatch with a hatch with the option of installation of turret. On the rear of the vehicle is located the cargo space. Version of the chassis with a longer wheelbase became the basis for the armoured ambulance, which to your arsenal introduced the Italian or belgian army.

Deliveries of armored cars IVECO M65E19WM LMV for the needs of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic began in 2010. The vehicle presented at The IDEB 2010 exhibition is equipped with additional electronic equipment - a mobile phone jammer and is adapted for the transport of the lying wounded at the rear of the car.

All vehicles used in the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic (including the vehicle in the following pictures) have been modified in VOP Trenčín, where the original turret of the shooter was replaced by either a remote-controlled weapon station ZSRD 08, or a separate mechanical tower SMV-01 In the accompanying drawings, it is further equipped with a Galix-13 smoke device and an SLO.9 laser radiation detection and warning system, which is connected to the smoke device. The smoke device is equipped with 8 Galix grenades caliber 80 mm, which allows to create a multispectral smoke screen, opaque and impermeable to the visible and infrared spectrum, which allows masking the vehicle in front of thermal imaging cameras, lasers and IR sensors.

One vehicle with a weapon station ZSRD-08 was in 2013 incomprehensible due to an accident.

LMV and SOG

The first vehicle LMV with the armament of the Czech armed forces appeared the merit of the the Department of special operations of the Military police (SOG). After a half-year battle action 1. a contingent of SOG under british command in the afghan Hílmand (20. April to 20. October 2007) were assessed during the mission and on the basis of this it was decided to add additional contingents deployed in Afghanistan to some of the new material and armament. In the framework of urgent operational needs, therefore, in 2007, to the acquisition of four light armored vehicles LMV. The choice for this type of fell not only because it represented the perfect compromise between weight, armor and armament, but also because the british army into your loadout has introduced the same type of vehicles (under the designation of the Panther CLV), which planned to operationally deploy in Afghanistan (the Panther CLV was to serve with the british army introduced in June 2008, several vehicles were in may 2009, tested in Afghanistan in the assembly of the british 1. mechanized brigade).

The reasons for the purchase of vehicles LMV commented on by the commander of Sogo, mjr. Petr Krčmář, for departmental printing as follows: "We in this operation at the present time there is, in addition to the armoured Toyotas [Hilux SCV] [even]at escorts VIP and lightly armoured Tatra mountains [T-815 SOT], which, in essence, have catered to the chassis, no vehicles, which could in this situation provide our soldiers ballistic protection. Vehicle company Iveco are resistant even to bullets from the RPG-7, which in the south of Afghanistan quite often used by the adversary."

The contract for the purchase of vehicles LMV for the amount 119 134 225 Czk was signed 6. December 2007 (included in the delivery, for example, and munitions). The machines were procured in two weapon configurations: weapons stations M151A2 Protector ("LMV-2") and with a manually operated towers ("LMV-1"). In the framework of the selection procedure, the selection was made from three types of weapon stations: the israeli Mini Samson, the belgian ARROWS and the Norwegian M151A2. In favor of the latter type decided to the following criteria: several years of practical verification (millions of operating hours in combat conditions - american armored personnel carriers M1126 Stryker), high accuracy (comparable with a sniper rifle of the same caliber) and the full maneuverability from the inside of the vehicle. Part of the recommendations of the selection committee was the postscript that is appropriate to each tower to get the complete range of weapons in order to ensure maximum variability. Unfortunately there have been, but for financial reasons, taken only 12.7 mm machine guns M2HB QCB and have not been taken or grenade launchers (whether american the MK 19 Mod 4 or the German GMG) or small-caliber machine guns. Stations M151A2 was provided with two vehicles. Because of the savings and for greater variability of the deployment was the remaining two LMV provided with a conventional, hand-served towers. Protectory may have cutting-edge surveillance equipment, but the human eye at smaller distances, they can't replace due to the limited viewing angle and the slower the reaction time when fighting on a small distance. A combination of both types of weapons configurations so managed to balance the pros and cons of each of them. In the south of Afghanistan is the open desert, where is no problems to see even at a distance of around 800 meters, which requires an accurate gun with a large calibre, which meet the M151A2. On other tasks it was possible to use the manual turrets with grenade launchers AGS-17 and machine guns PKB. Manually-operated towers have been in Afghanistan fitted also gun M2HB QCB. Vehicles LMV was after the delivery of the modified at the prague VTÚLaPVO (branch plant QUARRY). It covered mainly two unarmed pieces which were mounted with missile turrets and additional armor the rear of the car, where the extra was added one seat. The vehicle was also equipped with the original before the activation of radio triggers booby explosive systems.

Abbreviated troop tests of vehicles with weapon stations M151A2 took place in Vyškov at the end of April 2008 and a state-owned enterprise VOP 026 it said about 1 404 200 Czk.

ÚSpO VP eventually the cars LMV put into operations in the province of Helmand earlier than the British. This occurred apparently in may 2008, the ranks of the 3. a contingent of SOG, which began on the territory of Afghanistan in April of the same year. In August 2008, the soldiers started ÚSpO VP operate in the province of Logar where you should strike actions to improve the environment for the activities of the Czech provincial reconstruction team (PRT). At the time of the action of the 3. a contingent of SOG in the Lógaru was SOG deployed several times in joint operations with the american "Green berets" (teams ODA - Operational Detachment Alpha) and Romanian special forces (Batalionul 1 Operatii Speciale "Vulturii"), which was operationally deployed, the Czech LMV. Their other tasks included the escorts of convoys or transport of members of the 3. a contingent of SOG.

In the middle of the 3. September 2008, shortly after twelve o'clock local time in the Lógar to the damage of one LMV improvised explosive devices. One of the soldiers was seriously hurt. The affected vehicle was part of a patrol, which performed together with american, French and afghan troops the task set in the district of Mohammad Agha, in the province of Logar. The explosion damaged the hull and fired from her material. In the vehicle were three soldiers. None of them was hurt. Only the driver of the vehicle was returning to base FOB Shank hospitalized in the infirmary for nausea caused by a likely concussion after the explosion. Other LMV during the transfer by paved road to the Kabul turned over at the completion of předjížděcího maneuver, allegedly for failure of the system of the central pumping the tire, when it should occur a sudden pressure drop in one wheel and loss of vehicle control. Serious injury occurred to one member of the ÚSpO VP with permanent consequences.

3. a contingent of SOG was in Lógar operationally subordinate to the american command. At the conclusion of the rotation was made the official request for inclusion of units into the structures of command of the special forces ISAF. He was from the Czech Ministry of defence dismissed and mission in October 2008 discontinued.

After returning from Afghanistan was damaged LMV fixed in one čáslavském car service for 34 994 925 Czk. The corrections have occurred in the second half of 2009 and in early 2010. At this time, was already ÚSpO VP mysteriously canceled. All four LMV so ended up with a Battalion of security at the Headquarters of the training - Military academy, where they are used for training new drivers. First it was about the troops intended for deployment in Afghanistan, later also members of the ordinary staff of the ACR přezbrojenými to HUNTING for 50 B and HUNTING THE 7.62 B. The original four LMV from the estate SOGu operates in Vyškov to this day (11/2013). LMV CZ/II ZST

According to the official mythology was another light armored vehicles LMV for the needs of the Czech armed forces purchased on the basis of the positive experience with the vehicles deployed ÚSpO VP in Afghanistan. For the security of forces and means deployed in overseas operations with an emphasis on the conditions of operation in Afghanistan was 5. September 2008 signed a contract for the supply of 15 vehicles LMV CZ/II ZST armed with weapons stations M151A2 Protector.

Cars were purchased without a tender, triggering speculation that their purchase was motivated by to get him some "make money on the side". The contract came to 499 889 250 Czk (including VAT), which is suspiciously close to touching the border of the half a billion crowns. The decree of the Ministry of industry and trade namely said that the obligation to apply the requirement to the implementation of off-sets shall apply to the contracting authority of public procurement, whose object is the acquisition from a foreign supplier at a total value of more than 500 million Czech crowns or foreign sub-contracting for domestic final of the supplier exceeding the value of 250 million crowns. According to the subsequently disclosed information, the supplier had this contract to make 178,5 million, which corresponds to a margin of nearly 36 percent. Under the contract the price (including VAT) of one LMV CZ/II ZST 31 029 250 Czk. In this price included delivery and installation of american radio AN/VRC-110 (RF-300M-TV FALCON III) from the company to Harris including kryptomodulů, the internal audio device VICM 120 (3 pieces per vehicle for an average amount of 2 832 780,54 Czk including VAT) and the jammer before activating the radio triggers booby explosive systems (RCIED) type WBS 2500 (1 piece per vehicle for an average amount of eur 3 598 302,96 Czk). Included were also two pieces of the shooting simulator M151 (price per piece 2 195 550 Czk including VAT), three sets of workshop and diagnostic equipment for 1. to 3. degree of repair (price per piece 7 134 050 Czk including VAT) and a set of operational and training documentation (price 8 657 250 Czk). All 15 vehicles LMV CZ/II ZST was delivered by the end of 2008.

The first five pieces were in Afghanistan were transported in may 2009 for the needs of 2. a contingent of special forces (mainly formed by members of the 601. a group of special forces), which performed combat missions on the territory of the province of Uruzgán. At the fighting base of FOB Anaconda in uruzgánských the mountains was all vehicles LMV CZ/II ZST transported by air with the help of a heavy transport helicopter I-26 the Russian civil aviation companies. The involvement of the machinery LMV CZ/II ZST have a detrimental impact not only on the psyche of the insurgents, which later commented on the commander of the 3. a contingent of special forces, colonel. Josef Kopecký: "we didn't Know, however, how much impact it will have on our opponent. Almost immediately after it was seen that the atmosphere between the antigovernment forces thickened. Without this kind of planned, they started to feel some ruse on our part. See, it's coming up, "tanks", as they armored their cars, they say, and they were suddenly totally freaked out. Understand it so, that on the base are placed the other forces, which for them had a huge psychological impact. Suddenly felt that the game was lost." it wasn't that simple. In the performance of operational assignment was in the summer of 2009, three vehicles badly damaged nástražnými explosive systems and in a traffic accident. Under one vehicle exploded an anti-tank mine, which tore off the entire front axle. None of the Czech soldiers was seriously hurt. As a replacement for the destroyed vehicles was 12. August 2009 signed a contract for the purchase of three replacement vehicles for the amount of 86 251 200 Czk (this was about two LMV CZ/II ZST, the third machine was without a weapon station). Third combat deployment members 601. a group of special forces ended in December 2009 (as part of operation Enduring Freedom 601. a group of special forces to combat operations in the Uruzgánu has deployed three contingents from August 2008 to December 2009). Machines LMV CZ/II ZST were deployed at the next combat action of this body, which took place on the territory of the afghan province of nangarhar province from July 2011 to may 2012 (eviction of people, military equipment and material took place in the period from 9. 29. June 2012) in the framework of the 1. and 2. task force of special forces. Compared to the previous action in Afghanistan were LMV CZ/II ZST additionally adjusted. The most noticeable change was the installation of the system PILARw on the ceiling of the cargo space in the rear of the car. PILARw is a passive acoustic system designed to detect the position of the shooter. Types of detected calibers are from 5.56 to 20 mm and a weapons type RPG. To evaluate the position of the shooting will occur within 2 seconds. According to the calibre of the weapon can the system detect the position of the shooter at a distance of 0 to 1200 meters from the vehicle with an accuracy of ±5° in azimuth and elevation. Detection range of 360° in azimuth and 90° in elevation.

The remaining ten vehicles LMV CZ/II ZST was in Afghanistan transported to the end of June 2009. Their provider became a Provincial reconstruction team (or him subordinate to the Reconnaissance detachment) stationed on the base of FOB Shank province Logar. The first operator of the LMV CZ/II ZST is here to become a Reconnaissance detachment 3. a contingent of ACR at PRT Logar, which consisted of members of 2. airborne mechanized battalion from the 43. airborne mechanized battalion. The vehicle here was used for patrolling or as an accompaniment in all the calls of the civilian part of the PRT or to escort logistics convoys into Kabul. In such a case was even reinforced the convoy, which had 4. contingent on FOB Shank carry gun Glock 17 taken in the context of urgent operational needs as a replacement for non-compliant gun vz. 82. A cautious commander decided not to take any chances, and additionally from the Americans requested air cover the two battle helicopters AH-64 Apache. Commander in Afghanistan proposes, but the logistics in the Czech republic is changing. When the convoy arrived at the airport in Kabul, his commander, to his unpleasant surprise he found that no Glocks in Afghanistan have yet to arrive. Under the watchful supervision of a u.s. attack helicopter was on the FOB Shank at least brought toilet paper...

The majority of LMV CZ/II ZST in the assembly of the PRT had attached military license plates. The distinguishing feature was the tactical designation in the form of a small roman numbers placed above the windshield of the cab. After the termination of the activities of the Provincial reconstruction team at the beginning of the year 2013 was a part of the vehicles relegated by air back to the CZECH republic, the rest of the LMV CZ/II ZST were passed within the scope of 1. unit ACR MAT Logar province (MAT=Military Advisory Team - a Military advisory team) FOB Shank. The objective of the unit was to carry out consultancy services for allocated kandaku (battalion) of the Afghan national army (ANA) and improve the abilities of the assigned kandaku ANA, which will ensure its growth in particular in staff activities. In the final rotation of PRTS, however, LMV CZ/II ZST to call outs outside of the base no longer applies. The strength of the taliban improvised explosive charges have already been such, that their protiminová protection has become greatly ineffective. For patrols outside the FOB Shank therefore, the use of a machine category MRAP type MaxxPro, that lent the United states of america. 1. unit ACR MAT Logar province in Afghanistan, she worked from march to September 2013. Then, the LMV CZ/II ZST deployed on the territory of the province of Logar withdrawn back to the Czech republic.
