V požehnaném věku 95 let zemřel svobodník v. v. Bedřich Abeles, Ph.D. V roce 1939 se mu podařilo utéct před nacisty v jednom z Wintonových vlaků. Ve Velké Británi vstoupil do československé armády dne 11. května 1943 a posléze z pozemního vojska přešel k letectvu, kde sloužil jako člen pozemního personálu u 311. čs. bombardovací peruti. Za války byla jeho rodina nacisty vyhlazena. Po válce se vrátil do Československa kde vystudoval fyziku na Přírodovědecké fakultě Univerzity Karlovy. V roce 1949 emigroval do Izraele. Poté nějaký čas působil a žil v USA. V posledních letech žil ve Velké Británii, kde také zemřel.
