Class Fubuki[/heading]

A total of twenty-four units, built in the years 1926 to 1933, consisted of a class of destroyers Fubuki the imperial japanese navy (吹雪型 / ふぶきがた / Fubuki-gata). Unit class Fubuki was the first "special destroyer" (特型駆逐艦 / とくがたくちくかん / tokugataëkučikukan) the japanese navy.
Its size, thick barreled and, in particular, the torpedo armament surpassed all the existing japanese and foreign competitors. In addition to the other were characterised by a closed bridge and a strong artillery armament, which was composed of six 12 cm L/50 guns in there type 3 in the three covered armoured towers. Of all the 24 constructed units survived the war only two, one of which was subsequently handed over to the soviet navy. Eight others were destroyed by allied aircraft and about the fate of the same number of care torpedoes fired from american submarines. Four more units were lost in clashes with the allied hladinovými vessels, one unit ran on a sea mine, and one was the victim of a collision in 1934.

the Background of

After the signing of the washington treaty, Japan was forced to follow the established restrictions in the construction of heavy vessels and observe the ratio of 5 : 5 : 3 (Britain - USA - Japan) in a standard displacement of ships of war. For these reasons, the imperial navy tried to disadvantageous ratio qualitative predominance of built of the vessels. The crew of the imperial navy (軍令部 / ぐんれいぶ / gunreibu) thus raise the requirement on the design of the new destroyers that were with it, his striking power to overcome their western counterparts. On 10. October, 1922, then, were the designers submitted the requirements to the future destroyers have four 12 cm or 12.7 cm guns in dvojúčelovém embodiment, therefore, with a high elevation angle, which allowed an effective anti-aircraft fire, led by the main armament. They also had units to carry one 76 mm anti-aircraft cannon and three tříhlavňové torpedo tubes caliber 610 mm. Project F42 from may 1924 also numbered with the anticipated displacement of vessels 1900 t and a speed of 40 knots. Follow-up project F43 then counted also with nine torpedo tubes of the same caliber and gun armament, consisting of six 127 mm guns (3x II), one 76mm anti-aircraft guns and four 40mm rychlopalných anti-aircraft guns, supplemented by two 7.7 mm machine guns, and that when displacement of 1680 t and reduced speed of 35 knots. In the implementation of construction then there has been a discharge of 76 mm and 40 mm cannons. A total of was built 24 units in three series. The third series of the vessels is sometimes in the sources referred to as a separate class of Akacuki. The units of the first series was the ventilation of the boiler rooms solved two large fans placed next to the front chimney. Uranami, representing the last unit of the first series, she had the mouth of a ventilation of the boiler rooms arranged as a rim around the front of the chimney. This solution was then taken for all subsequent japanese destroyer. The third series can be easily identified by the narrower front of the chimney.

Design solutions

The main superstructure of the first series consisted of the four fundamental levels: the lower floor on the front board (首楼甲板 / しゅろうかんぱん / šuró-kanpan), the second floor of the upper bridge deck (上部艦橋 / じょうぶかんぱん / džóbu-kankjó), forth bridge (羅針艦橋 / らしんかんきょう / rašin-kankjó) and the platform with the rangefinder. The bridge was closed to construction and featured news, which later took over all of the following japanese vessel type destroyer. Platform above the bridge was partially closed, and was provided with an umbrella sail against bad weather, stretched on a metal structure. On it was placed six feet tall and 66 cm stereoscopic rangefinder and designator 127mm guns, which lacked the typical turret. On the roof of the bridge they were still two 30 cm lamps.
The main superstructure for the second series was dealt with similarly as in the first series. The lower three stages were virtually identical, differed but the internal arrangement. The fourth level was formed by a bridging deck with four 12 cm telescopes and two 30 cm lamps, and which was zastřešitelná a tarp on the design. The fifth level is characterised by the presence of the device for fire control of the type 91 for the guns of the main armament with two-meter rangefinder on a separate platform behind the turret.
And the third series had a total of five levels and was based on the superstructure of the second series. It differed mainly the internal layout of the lower three floors, and patrol bridging deck. She was fitted with a solid tin roof and was equipped with two rangefinder-type 14 for firing torpedoes. Rangefinder type 91 for the turret was in this case a ten-foot.

Power system

Two sets of steam turbines Kampon ensure drive these modern and efficient vessels. Each assembly was made up of one high pressure and one low pressure turbine, which were installed opposite each other in a pair and a further single turbine with high and low-pressure stage, which through the gear driven by one shaft. The performance of each of the assemblies amounted to 18387,5 kW at 400 revolutions per minute. Each assembly was equipped with a turbine for cruise travel at a speed that was through a gearbox connected to a separate turbine. It should be said that this arrangement was between the vessels of the imperial navy from torpedo boats above absolute rarity. Each assembly weighs 72 tonnes, of which 43 tons weigh of the turbine, and 29 tons of gear. Shipping bolt amounted to an average of 3.2 metres with 3.7-meter pitch. Steam pressure 1,958 MPa was generated boilers Ro-as go Kampon shik. Class Fubuki was the last class, whose turbine was driven by saturated steam and were not equipped with preheaters air.

Armament

The main armament was made up of six 12 cm L/50 guns in there type 3 in three closed dvouhlavňových lafetách. Placed have one on the bow and two at the stern. But it wasn't a full tower, because the under carriage was just a handling chamber. Ammunition elevators, covered barbetou, leading up to the munitions skladištím on the storage board were missing. The first series was used to mount the model And and the vessels of the second and third series carried lafetu model B. Ammunition was to the guns transported from the storage tanks under each carriage, which significantly facilitate the operation.
The anti-aircraft armament was made up initially only two 7.7 mm machine guns. In the later units were then lafetovány 13 mm heavy machine guns, type 93.
The torpedo armament accounted for three revolving tubes of the modified model 1923 with eighteen 610 mm torpedo type 8. Nine torpedoes were loaded in torpédometech and nine of them were stored in bins on the deck. One tube was on the superstructure between the two stacks and two on the deck behind the rear chimney. Since 1933 it has been a torpedo of the type 8 being replaced by a much more powerful torpedoes type 93 oxygen powered, called "Long spear".

Modification

During The Incident 4. the fleet proved the lack of strength of the structure, not only class destroyers Fubuki. For example, vessels Júgiri and Hacujuki came in waves, practically the whole of the bow to the bridge and also causing the buckling sheets of armored plating at the bow and at the stern. Therefore, from November 1935 until the end of 1938, there were strengthening the structure and adding ballast. The units of the third series was the main superstructure reduced by one level by removing the patrol of the deck. Therefore, the fourth, highest level was made up of 66 cm rangefinder, sight type 94 for the 127mm gun in the turret and 3m rangefinder on top of turret scopes.
After 1937, was the vessel fitted out two 25 mm anti-aircraft automatic cannon type 96. In the course of the pacific campaign was further strengthened by anti-aircraft and anti-submarine armament. In the forties there were then ships equipped with radars. A five-foot surveillance first three of these type 13 as go for the monitoring of aerial targets and centimeter surveillance radar 22 as go against air and surface warfare objectives. Anti-submarine armament was strengthened on four throwers depth charges with 36 bombs.
