Eugen Albert Max Meindl was born 16. July 1892 in the town of Donaueschingen in Baden-Württemberg.
27. July 1912 to become a cadet württemberské army and after graduating from the War academy he was 17. February 1914 promoted to the rank of lieutenant and joined the service at 5. bádenského field artillery regiment. June 1941 was Eugen Meindl awarded the Knight's cross.
After he had recovered from his injuries, took over the Meindl back in command of your kluzákového regiment. In the winter of 1941/1942 then commanded on the eastern front "Battle group Meindl," which was compiled from field regiments the Luftwaffe and was later renamed the Meindlovu division of the air force. After the Allied landing in Normandy 6. June 1944 was II. airborne corps, which was subordinated to the 3. paradesantní division and 17. the division of the panzer grenadiers of the SS Götz von Berlichingen, deployed against us forces in the area Saint Lô and participated in heavy fighting the next two months. After the destruction in the pocket of the Falaise II. airborne corps in Germany reorganized and subsequently deployed to the Netherlands, where in September 1944 faced the allied landing in the area Nijmegen (Operation Market-Garden). A great command during the fighting at the Falaise took Meindl 31 August 1944 an oak branch to the Knight's cross.
After the rest of the war led Meindl torso of his corps in the battles in Holland and Germany and 8. may 1945, received as a 155. a German soldier swords to the Knight's cross. The period from 25. may 1945 to 29. September 1947 spent in the anglo-american captivity as prisoner number 451 668.
Eugen Meindl died 24. January 1951 in Munich.
