15cm sIG33 auf Pz.Kpfw.I Ausf.B


Even before World War II, the need arose for the construction of self-propelled works of large calibers capable of effectively supporting ground troops and destroying fortified points of resistance and enemy groupings.
On the chassis Pz.Kpfw.I Ausf.B was inserted into a simple box superstructure complete heavy infantry howitzer sIG 33 caliber 150mm with wheels and supports. The howitzer used fragmentation, explosive and anti-tank grenades. Measure + - 12.5 °, elevation -4 ° + 75 °. The crew consisted of: a driver, a commander and at the same time a shooter and two chargers. It was clearly an emergency type, which suffered from many negatives (weak load capacity of the chassis PzKpfw.I, a large and light target for anti-tank cannons , weak crew protection ...). In 1940, a total of 38 pieces of this vehicle were created. He first appeared during the fighting in France, later fought in the Balkans and ended his active service on the Eastern Front in 1943.
