Note:

Popis a historie typu v samostatném příspěvku
Endurance 30 hours.

The Potez-CAMS 141 was a French long range reconnaissance flying boat. Only a single prototype was completed before the German invasion of France stopped production. The flying boat was named Antarès and being evacuated to Port Lyautey in Morocco. It was operated by the Vichy French Navy, serving with Escadrille 4E at Dakar, continuing in service until the Allied Invasion of North Africa, when after brief fighting, the French armed forces in North Africa joined with the Free French. The Antarès continued in service, carrying out patrols over the Central and South Atlantic. On 2 June 1943, Antarès sank the German U-Boat U-105 near Dakar. Antarès was retired and scrapped at the end of 1943 by which time it had logged 1,800 flying hours.

Potez-CAMS 141 - history type:[/heading]

The French admiralty in may 1935 commissioned, with a heavy dose of generosity, the development of remote reconnaissance flying boat, which was to replace the widely used flying boats Breguet Bre.521 Bizerte. The generosity of the French admiralty can be seen in the fact that it wasn't actually only about development, but about development and construction of a prototype čtyřmotorového flying boat, and in addition, was this contract awarded to three companies - Breguetu, the latécoère and Potez-CAMS. Yes, each of this company design and build your own flying boat for the common customer – the French naval air force.

The first was the completed flying boat Potez-CAMS 141, the chief designer of the former company CAMS (Chantiers Aero-Maritimes de la Seine) Maurice Hurel will hold a proven concept and designed the aircraft as a strutted high-wing. Competitive companies are substantially delayed by konstruovaly more modern cantilever high-wing aircraft and subsequently had to solve many other problems in the latécoère 611 was in addition used a retractable buffer of floats. Maurice Hurel designed slim and in particular, the low hull, the hull should have their places, the crew, numbering nine and twelve members, which is not with regard to třicetihodinovou flight endurance of many. Upstairs on the hull was fairly massive pylon carrying the wing, the wing was reinforced with beams in the shape of the letter "N" anchored in the hull and on the gondola external engines. The horizontal tail was characterized by its considerable vzepětím, the struts were in the shape of the letter "V". For the power unit have been selected best engines Hispano-Suiza 12Y-26 and the Hispano-Suiza 12Y-27, the engines had the opposite sense of rotation and that was eliminated by the reaction torque of the propellers, which is very unpleasant during the takeoff the aircraft from water level. Under each engine was finely shaped radiator fluid and engine oil. Armament should be fairly effective, since for these aircraft was the specifications of the admiralty selected then dokončovaný cannon caliber 25 mm. Maurice Hurel planned to place this weapon into a power-operated turret, which was on the upper wing, exactly in the center of gravity of the flying boat. Unfortunately, the cannon was unreliable and did not pass the state tests, and so in its place was mounted a pair of machine guns Darne caliber 7.5 mm. The same machine gun the twins were in the four stations on the sides of the fuselage, all hlavňová armament was installed only after the 20. November 1939. The aircraft could carry up to 1 500 kg of bombs.

The prototype is built in the original factory CAMS in Sartrouville and the final assembly took place in the factory Caudebec-en-Caux, where they were all manufactured parts transported. Here he was 21. January 1938, the aircraft also fly, maiden flight by myself chief designer Maurice Hurel (zalétával all of its proposed aircraft). During the factory testing was with the new aircraft, flown for a total of twenty hours, on the basis of these tests has been adjusted the boat part, this adjustment was "taken" the front part of the fuselage, and this subsequently could increase the takeoff weight látajícího boat. In August 1938 began the tests carried out by maritime pilots for fly off 33 hours of flight time were the original engines in the short term replaced by a more powerful engine Hispano-Suiza 12Y-36/37, soon, but were installed the engines of the original, apparently because of more powerful engines need a gasoline with a minimum octane number of 100, and that was not everywhere available (the original engines permit sedmaosmdesáti octane gasoline). The aircraft passed state tests without failures, and the pilots enjoyed it. Soon after the adoption of the armament was a flying boat, according to the custom of the French navy baptized and bore the name of Antarès.

The aircraft remained made in a single copy, although the navy ordered the first of another four, in the summer of 1939 the order was extended by a further fifteen pieces, in September, after the start of the war with Germany, ordered an unlimited amount of flying boats, in April 1940, however, the order was reduced to 31 aircraft and the following month was this order reduced to only eleven machines. The reality was that it was positioned a few little planes, but none of them even before completion.

Flying boat Antarès was from 20. November 1939 enlisted in the squadrons of the 8E, it was the only aircraft of this unit, there flew up to the surrender for reconnaissance over the Atlantic ocean. 18. June 1940 he traveled to Morocco, from 1. August 1940 he was in a state squads 6E in the moroccan port of Port Lyautey, where he had to be, under the terms of the surrender, disarmed, from 7. September 1940 he flew in squadrons of 4E in dakar, senegal, Dakar, which was then part of French west Africa. Here from November 1942 attached to the Allies, is again armed and carried out anti-submarine patrol flights in areas of the middle and south Atlantic. Day 2. June 1943, in one such flight, about 56 km from Dakar, sinking the German submarine U-105, the whole crew of the German submarine was killed (commander Kapitänleutnant Jürgen Nissen). At the end of 1943, after the raid, 1 800 hours is Antarès on the verge of its viability, we must remember that there were almost no spare parts, and therefore is eliminated from the state, then it is the beginning of the year 1944 scrapped.
