This formation served as a basis for rebuilding 21. panzer division, destroyed in north Africa. Although he was Feuchtinger a good organizer, with the command tank units did not have any experience. Yet it was thanks to the good contacts in the nazi party 15. July 1943 given command of the 21. tank division stationed in France near Versailles. On the same day he was bestowed German cross in silver and 1. August 1943 was followed by promotion to the first general rank.
