Shortly after the establishment of Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Porsche for the chairman of the Panzerkommission In 9/1939, at his initiative at the end of 1939, a new program for the development of a new heavy tank weighing 25-30 tons was launched. form a 7.5 cm cannon Kw.K. L/24 or 10.5 cm cannon Kw.K.

Already on December 5, 1939, the first engineers of the new design were made by the chief engineer Karel Rab and then on December 9, 1939, the first sketch of a new tank project was created. The company Porsche, in addition to the design proposal, also dealt with the preparation of drawing documentation and the choice of possible subcontractors of individual components. At the end of 3/1941, the winners of individual contracts for the supply of components were appointed, namely:

Krupp - korby
Steyr, Austria - air cooled petrol engines
Siemens-Schückert - electrical components
Reichswerke-Hermann-Göring A.G. (formerly Škoda) - belts and chassis parts (suspension)

Krupp won an order for three hulls. Back in 2/1941, a representative of Krupp ( Dr.Müller) addressed Dr. Porsche with a tower development offer with 8.8 cm Kw.K. L/56. In the older literature, a cannon was incorrectly identified in the drawings from March 5, 1941, which they referred to as 7.5 cm Kw.K. L/48. However, it was built in 1942. The tower should have a diameter of the orbit 1900 mm. In addition to the drive and tensioning wheels, the platform consisted of six double castors with a diameter of 700 mm and a pair of support rollers on each side, also provided with a rubber rim. The wheels were rubberized around the circumference. The castors were mounted in pairs on the knee joint and this set was suspended by a torsion bar. The bands used were Kgs 63/500/160. The propulsion was to be provided by a petrol-electric system consisting of a pair of air-cooled 10-cylinder petrol Porsche type 100, the power of which was transferred to a pair of electric generators Siemens. The electric energy produced by the generators was driven by a pair of electric motors driven by the drive wheels.
The design work was to be completed on April 22, 1941.
Considerations of the cannon used concerned three weapons:

8.8 cm Kw.K. L/56
10.5 cm Kw.K. L/47
8.8 cm Kw.K. L/56 (enlarged charge chamber)

The decision fell on 8.8 cm Kw.K. L/56. The company Krupp was to produce six towers, three hulls and a wooden model of the tower with the selected cannon. In 5/1941, the order was extended by a requirement for the production of a wooden model of the body. Gradually, however, the development moved to a heavier tank VK 45.01 (P). The order for hulls and towers has been canceled. There is no information on whether an armor has been made of armor plates. At that time, however, production began in the new factory Eisenwerke Oderdonau in Linz. The company was entrusted with the production of test bodies from unarmoured steel. The company's reports speak of the start of welding work in 5/1941, the completion of work in 6/1941 and the acceptance of the test body by the Waffenamt in 7/1941. The first petrol engine was supplied by Steyr to Porsche in Stuttgarde on 7.7.1941. Engine tests took place on July 14, 1941. The second engine was delivered on July 30, 1941. After the tests, they were sent to Nibelungenwerke, where they were to be mounted in a prototype. The exact date of completion of the prototype is not known, but probable tests took place around 10/1941. At that time, however, development work on his successor VK 45.01 (P) was already underway. The program VK 30.01 (P) has therefore been canceled. Thus, only one platform of unarmoured steel, one wooden model of the tower and a wooden hull were produced. The prototype was used only to test the combined gasoline-electric drive. Later, a temporary crane was mounted on the prototype, which in this form served on the test polygons as a workshop vehicle (?).
