Light Tank Mk IA
A4E6, A4E7, A4E8, A4E9, A4E10

History of the creation
The next experimental phase in the development of the Light Tank Mk I type. A total of five vehicles designated A4E6 to A4E10 were produced. The first unit was put to the test at the RTC as early as October 1930. The most noticeable change was the raised chassis superstructure with a nose made of a single 9 mm thick steel plate. This greatly increased the space for a two-man crew and thus their comfort.
India showed interest in vehicles of this type and later commissioned vehicles to the same specification.

Characteristics and construction
The armour plates were bolted to angled mild steel beams.
Although it doesn't look like it in the photos, the original division of the interior space, into left combat, and right engine, was retained.
In the fighting compartment, the driver was in the front, with the commander/shooter behind in the turret. The Meadows engine used in most Mk I series tanks was on the right side, from there it drove the two front drive gears via a simple dry single plate clutch, the engine power itself was transmitted via a 5-speed Meadows gearbox (4 forward and 1 reverse), steering was done using differential clutches and brakes. Other sources indicate a 2-plus-2 gearbox. The radiator was located at the end of the engine and cooling air was drawn in through louvres on the upper rear armour plates.

All four running wheels had a diameter of 508 mm, rubber bands and six cut-outs giving the wheel a spoked shape. Tensioning of the tracks was provided by rear spring-loaded gears connected to a tensioning device. Three rubber banded auxiliary wheels helped to keep the belt taut on return.
The chassis suspension on the newly produced tanks initially used leaf feathers, later replaced by the Horstmann system on at least four tanks.

Armament
The first four machines used the same turrets as the Light Tank Mk I. But the last piece got a new enlarged turret armed with two machine guns above each other. These were water-cooled Vickers machine guns, the lower one being of 12.7 mm (0.5 in) calibre and the upper one of 7.7 mm (0.303 British). Their mounting was adapted to a large range of aiming and the two machine guns were coupled together. This achieved a significant increase in the tank's effectiveness against both ground and air targets, all in a relatively small turret.

Engine
The Ricardo four-cylinder diesel engine (in the A4E7) had a cylinder bore of 121 mm and a stroke of 140 mm giving a displacement of 6,412 cc, with a power output of 70 HP at 1900 RPM. With this engine, the transmission was replaced with a Dorman type with three forward and one reverse speed. It is possible to visually distinguish Ricardo-engined tanks by the larger exhaust silencers.

Combat Service
Experimental and experimental tank probably also participated in training and some exercises.

Further development of the type
A4E6 ML9652- was delivered for testing in September 1930 between February and August 1934 the existing Meadows engine was replaced by a Ricardo S65/4 diesel engine. The vehicle was cancelled in April 1935. Camouflage was applied to the vehicle using irregular patches of sand, grey and green, divided by a black line.

A4E7 ML9653 - delivered for trials in October 1930, in March 1931 the existing chassis suspension was replaced by a single spring Horstmann type, in February 1932 the Meadows engine was replaced by a Ricardo diesel. In 1934 the vehicle was scrapped.

A4E8 ML9654 - delivered in October 1930 with Horstmann shock absorbers, shipped to Egypt in January 1934.

A4E9 ML9655 - delivered in October 1930 and shipped to Egypt in February 1934.

A4E10 ML9656 - delivered in November 1930 with turret armed with two machine guns. In February 1932 it received new silencers (what type ?). It was destroyed in demolition tests in January 1935.
Light Tank Mk IA - No nevím, tohle je na polském serveru označeno jako Mk 1A, ale to sériové číslo nesedí. Jestli někdo víte něco víc dejte mi vědět.
