The modification includes the replacement of the 73mm cannon 2A28 with a 14.5 mm KPVT heavy machine gun. The gun, ammunition conveyor, automatic loading mechanism and launcher and guidance system for anti-tank guided missiles 9M14 Malyutka were removed from the turret. Other components, including the controls, were retained. Another major change is the redesigned area (observation room) around the hatch on the turret ceiling.
The turret is equipped with a 1-PN-22-M4 sight. It is a passive combined periscopic sight (for day and night observation). Lifting and rotation can be done by electric drive or manually. For electric operation, a control panel is used, which is located within the range of the shooter. Manual operation is done by hand control wheels located within reach of the shooter. The rotation of the turret may be blocked during transport. The locking device is located to the left of the shooter's seat. Firing of the gun is done from the control panel or by using the hand wheels to operate the rotation/elevation mechanism.
The ceiling of the turret has a multi-angled design, incorporating a gunner's observation room (viewing window). Four TNPO-170 periscopes are located around the observation room (viewing window), allowing the crew to observe the vehicle's surroundings. On the inner side of the roof is a fan to remove asphyxiating gases.
The gunner's seat, spent cartridge collector and cartridge belts, the ammunition magazine for the PKT linked machine gun, and two ammunition magazines ready for use for the KPVT machine gun are stored on the bottom of the basket.
The power system is a single wire 24 V DC with a negative ground pole. The tower contains a control unit and fuse box and limit switches to limit the raising and lowering of the armament. The tower shall be equipped with an internal call box and a helmet connection. This modified turret was also used on the MGC-1 demonstrator.
Apparently 15 MGC-14.5s were exported from the Czech Republic to Yemen in 2010 (the UN register only lists "BVP-1 with 14.5mm machine gun"). Originally these were BVP-1 machines retired from the Hungarian army. The vehicles were subsequently used in the fighting of the Yemeni Civil War.
