The IAFV (Infanty Armoured Fighting Vehicle) was manufactured by the Italian company OTOBREDA-Melara under license of the American armored personnel carrier M113 by the American company FMC. The M113 transporter is a vehicle whose main shortcomings are the unprotected 12.7 mm machine gunner's station and the lack of gunner's compartment in the swarm area. The Automotive Technical Service of the Italian Army prepared a proposal for the conversion of the vehicle, which managed to eliminate these deficiencies. OTOBREDA-Melara rebuilt the transporter on the basis of these designs and delivered 1,760 of these vehicles to the Italian Army by 1982. In the Italian Army, the OT is designated VCC-1. Otherwise, the vehicle is also known as Camillino. As late as 1982, OTO-Melara delivered 200 of these vehicles to Saudi Arabia. These vehicles were equipped with Emerson launchers for TOW missiles, as ordered by the customer.

Compared to the M113 A1, the firepower has been increased and the original aluminium armouring on the hull nose, sides and rear has been supplemented with a layer of steel armour, the swarm compartment has been made more comfortable, and gunports and observation ports for swarm members have been added, allowing the swarm compartment to conduct aimed fire from the swarm compartment both while the vehicle is stationary and moving.

The vehicle layout is as follows:
- front of the hull on the right: engine-gear compartment,
- front of hull left: driver's compartment and behind it the commander's compartment,
- centre hull to the right: 12,7 mm machine gunner's compartment,
- rear part of the hull: swarm fighting area

The vehicle (squad) commander has a dome with periscopes. The 12.7 mm machine gun is mounted on the right side of the centre section of the hull in a fully rotatable dome, providing the gunner with full protection. The inwardly sloping sides of the swarm compartment are fitted with a pair of gunports at their top, each with a periscope above. Another gunnery hatch is located in the rear motor-operated folding ramp of the swarm compartment. The swarm members use a motorized hinged ramp-type door to enter and exit the vehicle. On the ceiling of the swarm compartment there is a trapdoor for mounting a 7,62 mm machine gun. The increase in the swarm's fighting space was achieved by moving the fuel tanks from the interior of the vehicle to the rear wall of the hull and mounting them on either side of the entry ramp. Exhaust fumes generated during firing in the combat compartment are provided by two powerful fans built into the hull ceiling. The VCC-1 is fully amphibious and is powered by tracks in the water. For navigation, the vehicle is equipped with a breakwater in the front of the hull and two electric pumps that suck water out of the hull.

Vehicle version:
VVC-2 with additional armour on the sides and more observation ports in the rear of the hull,
The VCC-80 weighing 20 tons and equipped with a 20 mm gun and a 7.62 mm machine gun in a fully rotatable two-seat motor-operated turret.
Designed for export, the C-13 features a low profile and can be armed with a variety of weapons to suit the customer's requirements, either a 25mm cannon or a 90mm Cockerill Mk3 cannon.
A version with TOW missiles for the Saudi Arabian army.

In addition, the Italian army uses a SIDAM 25mm anti-aircraft four-gun mounted on the chassis of this vehicle.
