Since 1943, even before the start of serial production royalty the Mustangs (CA-17 and 18, worked with the CAC to the new fighters of his own construction, which would replace the Commonwealth Boomerang, although if the company did not have a lot of free resources and research did not go too well. The RAAF then in 1944, the ministry issued a specification calling for a much more powerful machine than the Mustang.
The Commonwealth originally considered to use a radial engine Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp, but it was not certain if they get a sufficient amount of for serial production, so the CAC ultimately chose terraced, Rolls-Royce Griffon. In 1945, the CAC built a prototype CA-15 with přeplňovaným the Griffon engine 61 on at 1,520 kW after what you two Griffony 61 loaned the maxon from the Uk. The serial of the machine then should get stronger the Griffon 125, which was then still in development.
The CA-15 was visibly affected by the Mustang, but only with the basic layout, not the dimensions. It was dolnokřídlý, all-metal fighter with an inline engine with the cylinder in the In and four propellers, with the main landing gear in the wings, zatahovaným towards the fuselage and a retractable tail wheel, lapačem cooler mounted under the fuselage and kapkovitým canopy. Armament consisted of three 12.7 mm Browning machine guns in each wing, but was assumed to be of the placement even more. The first years of the CA-15 was 4. march 1946, piloted by test pilot Jim Schofield.
