the Construction and preparation for deployment
The keel boats was established 22. June 1968 at the shipyard Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company in virginia Newport News. 13. may 1972 the ship was launched and christened. 1. march 1975 sailed on the first cruise in the framework of the factory tests (Builders Sea Trials), 11. April her navy took over and 12. April drifted into its home port in Norfolk. 3. may was the USS Nimitz in Norfolk put into service. Among the festive guests were present the minister of defense James R. Schlesinger, secretary of the navy J. William Middendorf and chief of naval operations, James L. Holloway. 16. 24. August graduated vessel verification of operational readiness (aOperational Readiness Evaluation) in Guantanámském gulf. After the ship was deployed in the North Atlantic in the framework of the Nuclear task force 75 (Nuclear Task Force 75). The Norfolk Nimitz returned 24. Seventh deployment and change of home port
