Light Tank Mk II

In 1931 a total of 16 of these vehicles were produced, 12 of them by Vickers, the remaining 4 by the Royal Ordnance Factory. They were fitted with the same hull as the Mk IA, but the chassis was sprung with a Horstman system of horizontal coil springs instead of leaf springs. Another significant change was the use of surface-cemented armour (layman's term for surface-hardened), which provided better protection for the same thickness and weight. The tank was fitted with a larger turret than its immediate predecessor the Mk IA, the turret being a version of the Mk I without air slots on the turret sides and with a sliding hatch.

Propulsion was initially provided by a 58 HP Meadows engine, most tanks were later converted to a 66 HP Rolls Royce engine. The belt returned on three reciprocating pulleys.

As part of experiments to float the tanks using buoyancy devices, the riveted joints on two tanks were sealed and floats fitted. Propulsion was by an outboard motor mounted on the rear plate of the tank. One of these amphibious tanks was later fitted with modified Horstman silencers, standard on Mk III tanks. As late as 1940, several of these were still in the armament of the British Army as training vehicles.

Construction
Steel plates were riveted to the iron skeleton I have no details yet on the exact location of the engine and other parts. Characteristic is the taller and rearward stretched turret with a single observation port at the front and three reciprocating pulleys of the tracked landing gear.
