26.5 mm signal pistol vz. 44/67
Since 1953, a Soviet weapon SPŠ-44 was introduced as a standard signal pistol in the Czechoslovak army. Its licensed production took place from 1952 to 1958 in the national company Zbrojovka Brno. The weapon was structurally simple and adapted to the simplest possible production during the war years. During the use of this signal weapon in our army, however, a number of negative findings gradually emerged, especially concerning the short life of the barrel (approximately 1,000 shots). The possibility of easy separation, especially from the body of the weapon, respectively. spontaneous opening, especially after firing a large number of shots. Finally, it was found that the weapon is highly prone to corrosion.
Therefore, in January 1966, the Ministry of National Defense, in cooperation with the Military Testing Institute 011 Slavičín, prepared technical proposals aimed at modernizing the signal pistol. The basic requirements of the client included an increase in the service life, mainly to 3,500 shots, chrome plating of the borehole, the use of alloyed materials and a surface treatment with fired enamel, which were to contribute in particular to a longer service life. It was also required that the barrel be easily separable from the body of the weapon.
During development, three different alternatives emerged, including the one shown in the photograph. In this case, a manual safety was added to the weapon and an anatomical bed for the thumb of the shooting hand was formed on the stock. However, this proposal did not pass the finding of redundancy of insurance on this type of weapon.
The result of a short development was the above-described signal pistol vz. 44/67. Its designation indicates a continuation of the original design vz. 44, modernized in 1967. The weapon in the years 1968–1969 was manufactured by the national company Precision Engineering in Uherský Brod.

- the barrel pin is removable. After removing it, the barrel can be separated from the body, - the bore of the barrel is chrome-plated and the functional surfaces of the components are reinforced, - the surface of the pistol is painted with grey baked-on lacquer, - the pistol grip handguards are made of plastic (phenolic) and are shaped for a better grip in the hand.
The design of the pistol prevents the weapon from opening spontaneously at the moment of firing, spontaneous firing and mitigates the effect of recoil and inertial forces at the barrel stop and trigger.
