Signal pistol vz. 44/81
After the modernization of the original Soviet signal pistol in 1967 vz. 44, which gave rise to the model vz. 44/67, there was a gradual decline in its numbers in the Czechoslovak People's Army. Which is a common situation in every army, due to natural wear and tear or damage to the material. Therefore, in the early eighties of the last century, the previous manufacturer of this weapon, the national company Precise Engineering in Uherský Brod, came up with a proposal to re-produce a larger series of this signal weapon. The reason was, on the one hand, to ensure an adequate amount of stockpile of this weapon needed for the natural exchange of troops for the obsolete vz. 44/67, but also to improve the original design and extend its life.
Therefore, instead of the original 11,300 steel, a higher strength steel 11,523 was designed for the production of side guns, which extended the minimum life to 4,000 shots. The drum cock also underwent a change in shape, on which the angled recess turned into a more ergonomic half-block. The unlocking lever was also enlarged, especially at the bottom of the trigger. Eventually, the stock, which slid in a sweaty or wet hand due to their smooth surface, also underwent a change, and therefore new ones, with dovetail roughening, were designed. It is true that during peace shootings, the manual for operating the Del-21-11 pistol showed the shooter the obligation to wear gloves to reduce the risk of burns. However, the proposed roughening was much more practical for a possible combat deployment, which also increased the grip strength in the gloves.
In 1980, after testing a 250-piece verification series, the Federal Ministry of National Defense[/url] ordered the first series of a modernized signal pistol in the number of 28,000 pieces, which eventually grew to a respectable 40,009 pieces. This number was produced by the national company Precision Engineering between September 1981 and June 1983, and to make it easier to distinguish it from the previous model, the new pieces did not have the original alphanumeric marking system, but only numerical in the range 10 001-50 010.
It may be interesting for collectors that the first two thousand piece series still had the original smooth stocks used for vz. 44/67 due to the later start of production of new, roughened.
