CAESAR 8x8 for Royal Danish Army
The first user of the CAESAR 8x8 self-propelled howitzers was the Danish Army, which introduced them into its arsenal as a replacement for the aging American tracked type M109A3DK, which was introduced into the Danish ground forces in 1965 (by the early 1970s, Denmark had received 76 of these howitzers). In addition to the CAESAR, the Israeli ATMOS howitzer made it to the final round of this Danish tender, which began in November 2015.
The first tender for the howitzers, which would replace the M109A3DK, was launched in August 2012. Its winner in 2014 was the Israeli company Elbit Systems with the ATMOS type. However, this tender was cancelled in April 2015. The tender was renewed in November of the same year. Seven companies were approached to participate in the tender: RUAG, Huta Stalowa Wola, BAE Bofors, Nexter Systems, Hanwha Techwin Systems, Elbit Systems and BAE Systems Land & Armaments. RUAG & BAE Bofors dropped out in the first round and BAE Systems Land & Armaments withdrew immediately afterwards. Subsequently, the Polish company Huta Stalowa Wola (howitzer Krab) was eliminated due to "commercial and operational criteria". Thus, Elbit Systems (ATMOS howitzer on MAN HX81 chassis), Nexter Systems (CAESAR 8x8 howitzer on Tatra 815-7 chassis) and Hanwha Techwin Systems (K9 howitzer) advanced to the next stage. However, the latter manufacturer did not submit a bid, so it too ended up in the tender. The weapon systems from Elbit Systems and Nexter Systems passed the verification tests and fully met the technical and tactical requirements of the Royal Danish Army. In the end, the French arms company was chosen as the winner, whose CAESAR 8x8 proved to be superior in terms of technical parameters, price and life-cycle costs.
The decision to procure the new howitzers was announced by the Danish Ministry of Defence on 14 March 2017. The contract for the purchase of 15 CAESAR 8x8s with an option for six more was signed on 22 May 2017, with a contract price of approximately DKK 300 million (converted at the then exchange rate of DKK 1 067 400 000). This also made it the first project in which the Tatra chassis was promoted as a weapons platform for a Western NATO member. The contract included, in addition to the delivery of the howitzers themselves, the supply of an initial set of spare parts, training of personnel and provision of repairs for 10 years. Options for additional units were only partially exercised when the contract for the delivery of four units was signed on 11 October 2019. This brought the total price to DKK 356 million. Enterprise trials were carried out by Nexter in early 2019. In autumn 2019, the Danes carried out firing trials at Saab Bofors' Karlskoga polygon in Sweden. The trials included tests of the cab's resistance to mine and IED blasts in Germany.
The CAESAR 8x8 howitzers have been introduced into the armament of the Danish Artillery Regiment (Danske Artilleriregiment) based at Oksbøl Garrison, where they will gradually replace the nominally 32 M109A3DK howitzers. In fact, the actual number of M109A3DK in service in the new millennium was considerably lower. In 2015, the Danish military had a total of 18 howitzers of this type. Of these, only three were fully combat capable, the other three could be brought to this state after several weeks of repair and maintenance. The remaining 12 served as a source of spare parts.
The first two examples of the CAESAR 8x8 were delivered to Oksbøl barracks on 22 January 2020, where they first engaged in military trials. The Danish CAESARs are equipped with the Hærens Taktiske Kommunikationsnetværk (HTK) combat vehicle information system and the THOR fire control system. At the request of the Danish army, the cab has been fitted with a machine gun tray, and the howitzer is also equipped with a day/night camera system, the image of which is projected on the driver's monitor.
Although delivery of the first 15 howitzers ordered was originally scheduled to take place during 2019, this plan had to be revised. The eight-month delay was caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, which caused problems for the French Nexter and slowed down the training of instructors and mechanics in Denmark. Further delays were caused by technical modification requirements arising from military trials. These included some minor design changes and the installation of a new gearbox. In addition, technical problems related to the main and delayed delivery of some components had to be resolved. In October 2020, the two first howitzers returned to France for the manufacturer to make the required modifications to them. By contrast, four fully equipped CAESAR 8x8 howitzers arrived in Oksbøl in early November, already fitted with components supplied by the Danish State (radio, combat vehicle information system, artillery fire control system). The training of Danish soldiers continued on these.
The official handover of the 15 howitzers to the Danish army took place in April 2021. The last one, the 19th, is to be delivered to the Royal Danish Army in 2023.
After France delivered 18 of its CAESAR howitzers to Ukraine as part of military aid during the Russian-Ukrainian War (which was a quarter of all weapons of this type operated by the French artillery), Paris began negotiating with Danish officials in late summer 2022 about the possibility of releasing 6 to 12 CAESAR 8x8 howitzers from the order for the Danish military and delivering these weapons to Ukraine.

CAESAR 8x8 for the Army of the Czech republic
Self-propelled there howitzer CAESAR 8x8 has been selected as the replacement for the obsolete howitzers vz. 77 DANA established in the arsenal of 13. artillery regiment. This intention unanimously approved by the college, the secretary of defense 21. may 2020. Two market surveys of the years 2017 and 2019 and the feasibility study in detail to assess a total of eight modern systems of different manufacturers. It was the israeli howitzer ATMOS, the Swedish FH 77 BW L52 Archer, south africa G6 and the T5-52 Condor, Slovak Zuzana 2 and EVA 8x8, French howitzer CAESAR 8x8 and the German gun module AGM. From the comparison 80 of the required parameters, of which 11 main (price, range, rate of fire, a wide variety of ammo, full compatibility with fire control systems used in NATO, the location on the chassis Tatra 815-7), eventually came out CAESAR 8x8 as the replacement howitzers DAN. The acquisition of this system came out also as the lowest priced. The prices of other the compared of works with the same parameters were almost up to a half higher, which was the case of the Slovak howitzers Zuzana 2.
The initial solicitation of the manufacturer Nexter Systems has been done in accordance with the law on public procurement at the beginning of June 2020 with the fact that the turn of June and July will take place the so-called preliminary market consultations. After registration in the Ministry of finance assumes a resort of defense from summer to autumn the official negotiations with the manufacturer, after verification of the final prices by an expert witness can be at the end of year 2020, submitted information to the government, after which may follow the signing of the contract. Estimated value of the contract is eur 5.95 billion Rubles including VAT (approximately 105 million usd per piece). Supply of 52 howitzers are to be carried out in the years 2022 to 2026. Part of the contract will be an initial supply of ammunition, two simulators, service kit, training instructors and technical staff and also the option for another 12 howitzers for the case of operational losses.
All the guns will be on the chassis Tatra 815-7 8x8. The final assembly of weapons should be delegated to the Czech republic and involved should the state and private enterprises.

CAESAR 8x8 in desert camouflage probably intended for Saudi Arabia, which under a large arms contract with Nexter Systems named ARTIS was to order, among other things, 118 towed howitzers 105LG, 147 self-propelled howitzers CAESAR and 112 self-propelled howitzers CAESAR 8x8.
