VERA-NG (Vera-NG)

The VERA-NG suite is designed for searching, identifying and tracking air, land and sea targets. It represents the fifth generation of Czechoslovak and Czech passive tracking systems for military use (Kopáč, Ramona, Tamara, Věra). In NATO terminology, this is Passive ESM (Electronic Support Measures) Tracking (PET) technology. VERA-NG does not emit electromagnetic energy, making it radiolocally invisible. This means it cannot become a target for anti-radar missiles. The VERA-NG antenna units can be easily transported and handled given their size and weight.

The Czech Army operates one set, which is deployed in the armament of the 532nd Electronic Warfare Battalion. It was manufactured in 2012. The other two VERA-NG mobile sets were purchased to replace the Vera S/M systems under a contract awarded on 14 January 2020 for CZK 1,507,924,306 including VAT. In addition to the four antenna units, each set includes five armoured trucks Tatra 815-7 in 8x8 configuration (all axles steerable), two Toyota Hilux off-road vehicles, tents, necessary computer equipment and other components. The new VERA-NG systems will be delivered to Czech soldiers in 2021 and 2023.

On May 12, 2014, a contract between the NCIA (NATO Communications and Information Agency) and ERA for the delivery of the VERA-NG passive surveillance system for the needs of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization troops was signed. The contract includes the supply of two VERA-NG mobile kits, including operator training and logistical support for 10 years. The contract is funded by the NATO Security Investment Programme and is expected to be completed in summer 2018.

In 2016, a VERA-NG kit was delivered to the United Arab Emirates in the configuration:
- ISO 1C evaluation container carried on a Mercedes-Benz Zetros 2733 vehicle
- side stations with AN-12 masts in superstructures (with the possibility of being removed from the vehicles and used in a static position) on Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 4000 vehicles.
In addition, the extendable masts have been fitted with a hinge that allows the receiver housing to be folded into a more compact body.

The AN-25 mast of the VERA-NG system is designed for short- and long-term use as a carrier for antenna superstructures. The base of the antenna carrier consists of a platform with ISO 1C container handles, alternatively it can be equipped with a hook loader eye. The platform houses a five-piece carbon fibre composite extendable tube, erecting and extending mechanisms, power supplies and boxes with all accessories. The platform can be placed and transported on a carrier of appropriate size and capacity (vehicle, trailer).

- Ambient temperature limits -40°C to +50°C
- climate resistance for all climate zones
- motor system electric, mechanical backup by crank
- cable routing via multi-cable to cable drum

Dimensions:
- Overall length in transport position: 6 058 mm
- overall width in transport position: 2 438 mm
- Total height in transport position: 2 150 mm
- maximum mast height (user body base): 25 m

Weights:
- Total: 6 500 kg
- weight of user superstructure (antennas): 300 kg

Wind speed:
- Functional: 35 m/s
- survival: 40 m/s

- area of user superstructure (antennas): 2.0 m2
- torsion of the mast top at the base of the antenna unit: ±0.75°
- tilt of the top of the mast at the base of the antenna unit: ±1,5°

The prototype pictured is transported on a Tatra 815-790R39 29 300 6x6.1R truck.

For vehicles arrived, three tractors with trailers. One, however, left empty and at least one of the vehicles of the Mercedes Benz UNIMOG has been saved back to the warehouse (defect, or problems with the logistics?).
