Short history
The Jawa "Perak" motorcycle is a legendary machine that was of great importance to Czechoslovakia and Europe at the time of its creation. Its origins date back to 1942, when the first prototypes were being built in secret (this was also reported, for example, in an article from Motorcycle magazine 11/1945 www.motomagazin.cz). The head of the design was Ing. Josef Jozíf. The origin of the new design school dates back to 1939, when the basic idea and theory of the direction of the appearance and design of the new Jawa motorcycles was formulated. The first prototypes of the new Jawa 250 motorcycle were, of course, very different from the final serial product produced from 1946 onwards. One of the prototypes can be seen today at the NTM in Prague. The final form of the Jawa 250 type 11 motorcycle came out of a competition held by the design offices of Ing. Frei and Vincenc Sklenář, whose machine failed.
In October 1946, at the first world motor show in Paris, the "33e Salon de l'Automobile de 1946" (and other similar events), the presentation of the Perak attracted a huge response. This was mainly due to the efforts of Jaroslav Frei, who had been the General Director of Zbrojovka since 1941. F. Janeček a. s., who was able to present his "baby" to the public. A repeated and established claim is the information when an enthusiastic crowd took the exhibited Jawa 250 off the pedestal and tried out the seating, controls and suspension.
It's a functional motorcycle, every structural unit is well thought out, simple to manufacture and very cheap to produce. Which fortunately doesn't affect the overall quality of the machine. During production, the appearance of the motorcycle changed only in details that the layman hardly notices. In general, the design is divided into three blocks. Specifically, those from 1946-1948 are referred to as "Janecek", 1948-1951 as "Zbrojovka" and the last block from 1951 until the end of production in 1954 as "koločko" or "komunista".
Some basic differences between the different models: FJ model: - Wheel centres, 150 mm diameter rosette. - P+Z fender hem inward - Front fender with 3 mounting holes - Rear fender without reflector hole - Front fork 2 grease nipples - FJ logo on tank (1946 motorcycles completely without logo) - Switch box of the older type with gearshift markings - Crankcase block with long horizontal side rib - 1946 motorcycle crankcases with small blower holes - Engine cylinder with recessed studs - Frame head brace without internal bracing - Low saddle (horsehair fill)
Model Zbrojovka: - Wheel centres with upgraded wire attachment - P+Z fender lip facing outward (noticeable "falc") - Rear fender with reflector hole - Front fork 4 grease nipples - "Z" logo on the tank - Bakelite switch box - Engine cylinder with visible studs - Frame head brace with internal reinforcement - Aluminium switch on handlebars
Model "wheelbarrow - Communist" - Wheel centres, rosette diameter 160 mm - "O" logo on tank - Bakelite switch box - Crankcase block without horizontal rib - Front mudguard with 4 mounting holes - High saddle with foam padding (leather and leatherette variants) - Chrome-plated steel switch on handlebar - Reinforced rear rack mount
There were a huge number of changes. Every detail has more or less 2-5 variations. There are at least eight versions of the tachometer, several types of front mask (with canopy, with falsec, with recessed tachometer...) two types of steel levers were fitted during production. There are also differences in the front and rear headlights and so on.
Dicks in CSLA Of course, the Czechoslovak People's Army also used the pérák motorcycles. In general, these were machines quite identical to civilian motorcycles. At first glance, only a different colouring was used. The machines were painted in a "khaki" shade, and the originally chrome parts are sometimes painted in silver (matt chrome) or black (wheels and exhaust system). The term matt chrome was always replaced with silver by the repair crews. Military motorcycles taken over by the MNO were stamped with crossed swords. The same marking was also on the technical certificate. However, as in the whole planned economy, this was not entirely standard. The army used Perak even without the "with swords" stamps. The same was true with chrome/painted parts. There are many photos of military machines with exhausts in silver and black, as well as wheels. There is also evidence of chrome headlight bezels, handlebars and other small details. Similarly, there are also photographs of civilian versions with soldiers in the saddles. Allegedly, the army also bought ordinary motorcycles, which were painted green in Přelouč (AOZ 010). However, this was also done for individual units. So far I have not been able to find a uniform regulation for the appearance of the Jawa 250 motorcycle. The registration plate (generally "number plate") is black with a white border and number combination.

Military Shuttlecock, originally some Pilsner of the crew who passed by us in the workshop refurbishment. Machine is in original condition, some parts have undergone restitution and reconstruction. This concerns mostly the painting front. The bike is fully functional and roadworthy. The motorcycle is not marked with a patch over the brand name OF..

That's not all fully "kosher", also shows this machine photographed in a museum in Israel. It's supposedly a prototype of this type. Well when blížším point of view, it can be fairly easily disproved. For the word prototype, one could consider that will deal about anything what was made in the beginning of the production, which runs until 1946. The details of the machine in the photos do not match. And it's not just some smaller parts or details, but on essential parts of the structure. This controversy I mention only as a curiosity.
Below I have outlined the basic, the main differences: - The frame is with the newer brace the head frame with the internal hardening. Valid for models Zbrojovka and Communist, therefore, about the year of 1949. - The front fender does not have a hem toward the inside, it's about execution, supplied also from about 1949 - Front fork has four, not just the 2 grease nipples that had motorcycles from the beginning of the production - Pressed logo "FJ" on the tank popped up in 1947 motorcycles from 1946 completely without a logo. Even the prototype in the photo below has the logo painted. Here's just a (wrong) zakitované and airbrushed paint. - The license PLATE has the same number combination as the exhibit located in the NTM! - Of those smaller details I will give: aluminum control lever mounted in the year 1953/1954, gray rubber leg warmers handlebar referred to today as "the keg", supplied to the powered cycle Stadium. The first Péráky had black leg warmers with a pattern rádlování referred to today as a "pineapple"..
