Derivative of the legendary French tank Renault FT 17 from 1925. The new tank arose from the need to modernize its predecessor, with the proviso that the tank was to be fully autonomous for longer moves without the need for tank transporters. It was to have a more durable chassis and a more powerful engine. Along with the NC 2, the NC 1 was also created in the same period. The NC 2 received a new chassis made up of eight larger wheels. These were mounted in pairs in a common suspension and were leaf-sprung. The drive and tension wheels were also enlarged. Auxiliary wheels were mounted in the front of the hull to help the machine overcome terrain obstacles. The machine used modified Kégresse tracks, which had proved their worth on the half-track machines of the aforementioned designer. The only prototype made of unpanted steel was subjected to intensive tests on the territory of colonial Morocco, and there it turned out that the chosen tracks were not suitable for this tank. There were problems with both the engine and the clutch. Although the tank was eventually accepted by the French Army in 2/1927, the unsuitable tracks and the chassis adapted to it had no hope of being introduced into armament. The prototype was used as a source of spare parts for the NC 1.
