08.05.1966 - on this day the first prototype of the final version of the aircraft flew, which was officially introduced into the PLAAF's armament in December 1966 (in addition to the Air Force, they also served in naval aviation and were exported to several countries in Asia and Africa) A total of 974 (1061*) aircraft were produced, production was terminated in 1983 (1986*).
The electronic armament of the aircraft allowed operation even during reduced visibility (at night and in bad weather). The aircraft was used for a variety of tasks, including observation and reconnaissance, artillery reconnaissance and pilot training. Aircraft have been used for basic pilot training since the late 1960s. In the 1970s, a specially modified model was used for zero-gravity training in the training of Chinese cosmonauts, and in the 1980s for aerial acrobatics in exhibitions.
In the armament, they were replaced by the JL-8 trainer aircraft.
