Ten-week undeclared war between Argentina and the United Kingdom in 1982 over two British dependent territories in the South Atlantic: the Falkland Islands and its territorial dependency, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.
On April 2, 1982, units of the Argentine army occupied the hitherto virtually unknown Falkland Islands, which belonged to Great Britain. It probably didn't have occurred to the Argentine that the few almost uninhabited islands would be worth the British expedition to the other side of the world.
