Brief history of the 26th Panzer Division
The 26th Panzer Division was formed in September 1942 in Belgium from parts of the 23rd Infantry Division. Once formed, the division was transferred to Amiens, France in October 1942 to complete training and defend the coast, where it remained until July 1943, when it was sent to Italy to engage the invading Allied forces. She remained in Italy until the end of the war. She surrendered to British forces at Bologna in May 1945.
