After a sustained frontal attacks on the austro-Hungarian defensive positions before Goricí (Gorizia) and on the plateau Karst made the Italians for several hundred feet and briefly occupied the key top of the Monte San Michel, which after the austrian attacks again lost. From the memories of the survivor:

...The italians moved on to the attack earlier, until all of this was razed to the ground and it cost us a lot of lives before this their tactics revealed. Then they began to dig large caverns for the whole of the battalions. Day was in the trenches only a few guards and only at night were fully booked. Our leadership also grasped, that just when the Italians fall officer, who is leading the attack. Team then suddenly everything gives up. And that they were their officers compared to men strikingly dressed, were always the first goal and fell first. Other then as if on cue they threw out guns, waving white handkerchiefs, and ran into Austrie with such joy, that we were always envious of. It was then a big coincidence, when he could have any of our section also so nice to let up. Just so happen, that 20. July 5 the Italian regiments attacking on Calvary against our only depleted so that a day was offensive was over, although the artillery preparation lasted continuously for four days and nights. Just without the obstacles they ran forward, over the hill, throwing away weapons and war has been for them has been dealt with. If they knew, how they will fare with us, how many thousands of them will die of starvation, surely would have been many changed their minds...
