After a three-day artillery preparation, during which the burning of the Italian batteries over a million artillery shells (without they managed to destroy at least the enemy's wire entanglements), attacked the 19 Italian divisions to 9 divisions of the austro-Hungarian first in the direction of the Goricí (Gorizia), then throughout the length of the queue. The fight, during which achieve only minor territorial gains, ended the bad weather. Italians in them lost 60 000 thousand men, the Austrians 42 000...

From the memories of the survivor:

...If it's Italy with the help of the Agreement were taken seriously, could with a little courage and preparedness of the whole Gorickou pan work in a few days. Then it would hold even Doberdo and the war could otherwise evolve: they didn't have to lose so many people at Monte Santa, Calvary and Doberdu. We later came to the opinion that the Italians are cowards, which is not to be trusted, but yet we are in every offensive they were ready to go into captivity. But it was hard. After the artillery preparation, lasting several days, they raced to the attack and flocked is always one shock, like rabbits, with the officers in the head. As soon as you hit it - and it was always early, as were a lot of naparáděni and conspicuous - zahodilo the whole team rifle, pulled out white handkerchiefs and I ran into captivity. It was in every attack. Because the same intention we had also, it was infuriating. Usually each of us had it all ready in the bread bin, i.e. canned food, underwear, a cup, a spoon and bread, patrons only on the waist in the bags. Then gave us back enough to hunt, when to escape, that it was pulled because it wasn't a small thing. The devil took them...
