In 1943, this tank fighter modification was created with the 5 cm PaK 38 L/60. The machine is probably a unique field conversion of the by then obsolete Pz.Kpfw. II. The machine was built by the 23rd Panzer Division and the photos are from the Eastern Front in the summer of 1943. The machine was kept in unit condition in the period 6-11/1943. The superstructure was inspired by the classic Marder II, but different shaped plates were used. An interesting feature is the mounting of three deflectors on the right side of the gun shield, presumably intended to protect the sensitive area from bullet intrusion. At the rear of the machine on the engine compartment there were large metal boxes containing cartridge boxes (4 pieces per box).
