In 1940, after a victorious campaign in the west, the German military authorities ordered the development of a new light tank destroyer for airborne units and infantry divisions. The winning design was the design of Rheinmetall-Borsig, which proposed the mounting of a 5 cm anti-tank cannon Pa.K.38 on the chassis of ammunition supply armored vehicle VK 3.02.
Plans Panzerprogramm 41 of 30.5.1941 provided for the delivery of a total of 3144 of these light fighters intended for anti-tank units of common non-motorized infantry divisions and airborne units. Long-term plans of the German command, however, counted on the beginning of production in 1943. The first 100 fighters were to be delivered on April 1, 1944, another 200 fighters on April 1, 1945. Of course, these plans did not get a chance to be implemented.
After the completion of July 1, 1942, two prototypes were sent for combat tests to 19.Panzer-Division. The division report from 8.8.1942 is mentioned about the inclusion in the state. The report on the operation of these prototypes was submitted on 18 September 1942 to the OKH (Oberkommando des Heeres - High Command of the Ground Forces), but probably not preserved.
