5. armored division was set up 10. October 1941 in kentuckém Fort Knox. The Great Britain arrived 23. February 1944. 25. July 1944, therefore, in D+49, landed on the beach of Utah and 2. August joined in the fighting south of Avranches and forwarded through the Vitre to the river Mayenne and then further to Le Mans, which freed 8. August. On account accounted for the proportion of the destruction of the German 9th. tank division. Then she turned to the north and through Le Mêle-sur-Sarthe has arrived to Argentanu, which contributed to the closure of the pocket at Falaise. In Argentanu she was replaced by 90. infantry division, and 5. armored could go towards Dreux on the river Eure. Between the rivers Eure and the Seine ran the division on the stiff German resistance, however, 30. August fought my way to Paris.

Then ran through the forest at Compiègne, crossed the river Aisne, the Oise and the Somme and 2. September has arrived at Condé-sur-l'Escaut on the franco-belgian border. Then turned to the east and 4. September crossed the meuse river at Charleville-Mézières. Then ran around the Sedan and 10. September, entered the capital city of Luxembourg, which is close to the German border. 14. September division broke through the Siegfriedovou lines in Wallendorfu. In October the division held defensive positions in the Monschau and to the end of November engaged in the fighting in the Hurtgen forest, where she succeeded after hard fighting the opponent's fight off to the river Pipes. At the end of December then it was moved to the reserve and stationed in the belgian Verviers. The river Pipes division has exceeded 25. of February and on the forehead XIII. the corps advanced to the Rhine. The river exceeded 30. march in Wesel. 12. April then reached in Tangermünde the river Elbe. 16. April turned to Klotze, where eliminated a threat in the form of panzer division Clausewitz. Then again, she came back to the Elbe, this time in the field Dannenbergu. 5. the armoured division was disbanded 11. October 1945.
