Division z.b.In. 618 was formed 29.3.1945 in the so-called ruhrském boiler (Ruhrkessel), in which were lodged in the american encirclement of the unit 5. tank army and 15. army of staff Infantry division Hamburg, its coupling section and the map department. Additional units were added 180. infantry division. Almost immediately the division was deployed into the futile battles against the american odds. 16. April then staff of the division ordered the subordinate units to end the fighting and went into captivity.
