7.5cm Feldkanone 7M85

The 7M85 field gun was designed based on a 1944 Army requirement as a weapon capable of leading artillery fire while serving as an anti-tank gun. The gun took its cradle and locking system from the 7.5 cm PaK 40 anti-tank gun and its lower receiver from the 10.5 cm LeFH 18/40.
The gun had a horizontal semi-automatic wedge breech. Production ran from 1944-1945.

Gun was in the tests at the end of 1944 found to be too heavy and that was the reason that made was just a small series. His designation was one of the first used on the gun under the new regulation. Marking indicates the caliber (or its group) or 7, further to a letter (here M) on behalf of the ammunition, that means that according to the ballistic characteristics, and finally the number of the drawings (i.e. 85). The weapon has been in development replaced by a gun 7M59 with a little less weight and greater range, but even those were produced only very few and to the units they received only a few pieces, because the war ended.
