The reality is somewhat the opposite, the weapon was apparently only designated IG 42, which is irrelevant because it was only a prototype.It was developed by Krupp based on a 1940 specification. It was not adopted and therefore not produced, its lafette was later (in 1944) used in the development of the PAW 600 (the other way around, it is hard to expect that the 1944 gun's lafette was used in 1942). Just a reminder that the PAW 600 didn't start being designed until 1944, most of the prototypes ended up using the PAK 38 gun's shell, and one was on a new shell designed just based on the IG 42 shell. The original prototype was used in the testing of smoothbore guns
