So gentlemen, a little bit of history and clarification
The development of the cannon with a variable cross-section dates back to the same period when Rheinmetall-Borsig developed its 7.5 cm Pak 40 L/46. Krupp went his own way. The first prototype was handed over for testing at the end of 1941.
The weapon as a whole is a relatively special design. The bed of the weapon is not the same as with classic cannons or howitzers stored in a classic carriage. The barrel of the weapon was mounted over a ball pin in a double protective shield armor with a thickness of 2 x 7 mm. Both support arms and flexible wheel suspensions were also attached to this shield. So the main supporting element of the cannon was a connected double shield.
The barrel, as described above, had a variable cross section. At the end of the weapon was 75 mm at the muzzle of 55 mm. However, the narrowing was not performed along the entire length of the barrel. The barrel could be divided into three parts. The first starting at the end was 2950 mm long where the diameter changed from 75 mm to 55 mm, the middle part and the third part with a length of 420 mm had a diameter of 55 mm. The second - the middle part, which wore the most during shooting, could be replaced even quickly in field conditions. To reduce recoil, Krupp has developed a special slot muzzle brake for this cannon. The cannon was included in the armament in the spring of 1942. March 1, 1945 was in service 11 guns.
TTD: Barrel length: 4,320 mm (L/57) Groove length: 2950 mm Narrowing length: 950 mm Service: 7 soldiers Firing rate: 12 - 14 rounds/min Range: 8,000 m Maximum aimed distance: 2,000 m Maximum effective distance: 1,800 m Measure: 60 ° Elevation: -12 ° to + 17 °
Muzzle velocity: When using PzGr 41 HK 1 125 m/s PzGr (W) 1,230 m/s Sprengranate: 900 m/s
